"reviewBody": "All four of my children have attended this nursery over the past 10 years, and I honestly couldn’t have chosen a better place for them to begin their journeys. They have grown into kind, confident, beautiful little people, and this nursery has played such a huge part in that.\n\nThey say it takes a village to raise a child — this nursery is that village and so much more. The staff are truly amazing: caring, supportive, nurturing and genuinely invested in every child. You can see how much they love what they do.\n\nThe food is incredible — honestly like a banquet! The variety and quality are outstanding, and it’s so reassuring knowing the children are well fed and looked after.\n\nMy youngest absolutely thrives here, just as the others did before. After 10 years with this wonderful nursery, I am genuinely gutted that this is our final year. It’s been such a special part of our family’s life, and we will always be grateful.\n\nThank you for everything you do. 💛",

"reviewBody": "My experience with Abbs Cross Day Nursery highlighted serious concerns around transparency, communication and basic care standards.\n\nDuring registration I was charged a £25 registration fee, £50 deposit and £30 consumables fee, without being clearly informed that the nursery was private until after payment was taken. The consumables charge was poorly explained. When I queried opting out and providing my child’s own food, I was sent a form stating my child could be excluded from activities if the fee was not paid, which I found inappropriate.\n\nMy son attended for only two days. Despite staff being aware that he was not toilet trained, I was not informed in advance to bring nappies, wipes or spare clothing. On the first day, I was told my son had been taken to the toilet and cleaned. However, upon changing him at home, this was clearly not the case. When this was raised, I received conflicting information about which staff member assisted him and no clear explanation beyond a brief apology.\n\nFood provision was minimal and inconsistent. I was informed my child would not receive lunch, only light snacks, yet he regularly came home hungry. On the second day, I arrived early and observed multiple children sharing chopped up fruit (with the juices) from a single bowl, despite being told that some children were unwell at the time. Shortly afterwards, my son became ill and required a visit to A&E, at which point I withdrew him from the nursery.\n\nCommunication throughout was poor and fragmented. Queries regarding safeguarding, hygiene and my child’s wellbeing were repeatedly met with vague responses or deflected with “that is not my department.” In contrast, communication relating to fees, payments and funding was prompt and persistent.\n\nFollowing withdrawal, I requested my deposit to be returned and was then asked for a government funding code, which was only requested after my child had left. I was later informed I had missed a funding deadline, despite only being notified of the requirement after the alleged deadline had passed. Since then, responses have been delayed, and my deposit remains unresolved.\n\nWhile the nursery appeared clean during the initial viewing, the lack of accountability, unclear processes and inconsistent standards of care make this a setting I would not recommend.\n\nI would like ALL of my money back.",

"reviewBody": "Staff are friendly and very caring with the children, never felt worried to leave my son with them - such a shame to have to review Abbs cross 1 star due to the lady that deals with payments/funding.. very rude and unprofessional.. my sons funding was applied for without my consent (this is illegal) and this being done almost lost my sons place at his new childcare placement, the lady demanded over £200 from myself in under 48 hours or refused to withdraw applying for the funding (black male) I had to contact early years funding myself for them to sort this and give funding to the correct child care with documentation.\n\nShe spoke about my child like he was somewhat an object and spoke to me abrupt and with a horrible attitude.\nThe lady made it very obvious that money was priority over the children’s wellbeing and didn’t care to break the rules as long as the money was secure.\n\nAfter trying to convince me early years funding wouldn’t care about documentation she then went on to say she had to wait for someone to check if there was documentation and acted as if she didn’t know.. (prolonging the funding being given to the correct provider) while hassling me for me to pay what she wanted me to pay. when getting knocked back for the funding I didn’t receive an apology for the stress of my son possibly loosing his placement - just an email sent from her iPhone telling me in 7 working days she will be handing over an over £200 apparent debt to bailiffs (again I can’t stress enough - I did not consent to the charges) but I guess they can get told that by someone higher then themselves as they did for the funding they tried to steal.\n\nIt did make me think what els may Abbs cross be doing or allowing just to keep the money flowing.\n\nMy son has been at his new setting for a couple of weeks and he has settled in (no tears at the door) he was at Abbs cross for around 8 months and the tears was every drop off - as I said the staff in Abbs cross seemed lovely but you don’t really know people clearly as I would have never of sent my son to anywhere that someone like that lady could be present.\n\nShe really let the place down and opened my eyes to what sort of people could be around your children and you not even know.\n\nI hope Abbs cross get her some serious training or get rid as I don’t think she should be linked to anything to do with children.",

## About this day nursery

Abbs Cross Day Nursery, a family-operated company established in 1996, offers childcare across four locations, including Rainham. The Rainham nursery provides flexible and full-day care for children from birth to five years old.

It features purpose-built facilities with three rooms designed to facilitate free-flow play and learning, all with direct access to an outdoor classroom. The "Baby Nest" caters to infants, providing spaces for early movement, sensory play, and group activities, as well as an indoor physical play area and a covered outdoor space.

Children around two years old transition to the "Starfish Room," focusing on messy, imaginative, and social play through various educational resources. The "Dolphins Room" prepares children for school with carefully planned activities that foster independence and offer opportunities for creative and messy play.

The nursery provides freshly cooked, healthy meals from a catering company. Abbs Cross Day Nursery in Rainham has received an "Outstanding" Ofsted rating in April 2018 and a 5-star Food Hygiene rating in March 2015.

The nursery is conveniently located on the Orchard Village estate, with easy access to public transport and drop-off/collection parking.

All four of my children have attended this nursery over the past 10 years, and I honestly couldn’t have chosen a better place for them to begin their journeys. They have grown into kind, confident, beautiful little people, and this nursery has played such a huge part in that. They say it takes a village to raise a child — this nursery is that village and so much more. The staff are truly amazing: caring, supportive, nurturing and genuinely invested in every child. You can see how much they love what they do. The food is incredible — honestly like a banquet! The variety and quality are outstanding, and it’s so reassuring knowing the children are well fed and looked after. My youngest absolutely thrives here, just as the others did before. After 10 years with this wonderful nursery, I am genuinely gutted that this is our final year. It’s been such a special part of our family’s life, and we will always be grateful. Thank you for everything you do. 💛

My experience with Abbs Cross Day Nursery highlighted serious concerns around transparency, communication and basic care standards. During registration I was charged a £25 registration fee, £50 deposit and £30 consumables fee, without being clearly informed that the nursery was private until after payment was taken. The consumables charge was poorly explained. When I queried opting out and providing my child’s own food, I was sent a form stating my child could be excluded from activities if the fee was not paid, which I found inappropriate. My son attended for only two days. Despite staff being aware that he was not toilet trained, I was not informed in advance to bring nappies, wipes or spare clothing. On the first day, I was told my son had been taken to the toilet and cleaned. However, upon changing him at home, this was clearly not the case. When this was raised, I received conflicting information about which staff member assisted him and no clear explanation beyond a brief apology. Food provision was minimal and inconsistent. I was informed my child would not receive lunch, only light snacks, yet he regularly came home hungry. On the second day, I arrived early and observed multiple children sharing chopped up fruit (with the juices) from a single bowl, despite being told that some children were unwell at the time. Shortly afterwards, my son became ill and required a visit to A&E, at which point I withdrew him from the nursery. Communication throughout was poor and fragmented. Queries regarding safeguarding, hygiene and my child’s wellbeing were repeatedly met with vague responses or deflected with “that is not my department.” In contrast, communication relating to fees, payments and funding was prompt and persistent. Following withdrawal, I requested my deposit to be returned and was then asked for a government funding code, which was only requested after my child had left. I was later informed I had missed a funding deadline, despite only being notified of the requirement after the alleged deadline had passed. Since then, responses have been delayed, and my deposit remains unresolved. While the nursery appeared clean during the initial viewing, the lack of accountability, unclear processes and inconsistent standards of care make this a setting I would not recommend. I would like ALL of my money back.

Staff are friendly and very caring with the children, never felt worried to leave my son with them - such a shame to have to review Abbs cross 1 star due to the lady that deals with payments/funding.. very rude and unprofessional.. my sons funding was applied for without my consent (this is illegal) and this being done almost lost my sons place at his new childcare placement, the lady demanded over £200 from myself in under 48 hours or refused to withdraw applying for the funding (black male) I had to contact early years funding myself for them to sort this and give funding to the correct child care with documentation. She spoke about my child like he was somewhat an object and spoke to me abrupt and with a horrible attitude. The lady made it very obvious that money was priority over the children’s wellbeing and didn’t care to break the rules as long as the money was secure. After trying to convince me early years funding wouldn’t care about documentation she then went on to say she had to wait for someone to check if there was documentation and acted as if she didn’t know.. (prolonging the funding being given to the correct provider) while hassling me for me to pay what she wanted me to pay. when getting knocked back for the funding I didn’t receive an apology for the stress of my son possibly loosing his placement - just an email sent from her iPhone telling me in 7 working days she will be handing over an over £200 apparent debt to bailiffs (again I can’t stress enough - I did not consent to the charges) but I guess they can get told that by someone higher then themselves as they did for the funding they tried to steal. It did make me think what els may Abbs cross be doing or allowing just to keep the money flowing. My son has been at his new setting for a couple of weeks and he has settled in (no tears at the door) he was at Abbs cross for around 8 months and the tears was every drop off - as I said the staff in Abbs cross seemed lovely but you don’t really know people clearly as I would have never of sent my son to anywhere that someone like that lady could be present. She really let the place down and opened my eyes to what sort of people could be around your children and you not even know. I hope Abbs cross get her some serious training or get rid as I don’t think she should be linked to anything to do with children.

All was good until child moved setting. It is a pitty Abbs cross have such people working for them. I had to support a very stressed mother of a child that attended Abbs Cross nursery Rainham. It was stated very clearly that the mother had disabilities but a member of staff acted with no consideration and spoke with utter disrespect to her and about her child’s time in Abbs cross. If you enjoy being spoken to terribly and conned for your money then this is the place for you to send your child.
