The establishment offers a nurturing environment where children, often referred to as 'Firbobs' – a term historically used for those born near the Higher Bebington Windmill – are encouraged to engage in free choice activities. The philosophy is to provide an extension of home life rather than school, allowing children to follow their interests. This approach also extends to their Holiday Club, where children's ideas heavily influence the planned outings and activities. Firbobs prides itself on its strong sense of community, with many staff members having long tenures, and even former attendees returning as young playworkers, creating a family-like atmosphere that spans generations.
