Areas to develop - 1 The new managers and senior leadership team have made changes to the pre-school to help support staff. However, this is not yet fully embedded in practice. Senior leaders do not ensure that the staff induction process is robust. - 2 Staff plan interesting practical learning experiences to support children's mathematical awareness. For instance, during transitions, children put their hands in the air and count up to 10. However, at times, during adult-led group times, staff do not consider the aim of the activity. This means children do not always learn what the staff intend. - 3 Staff support children to become school ready. Children's independence skills are promoted well in some areas. For example, they collect their coats from the reception area and wash their hands when they arrive at the setting and before snack time. Children confidently use the toilet independently. However, at other times, staff do things for them, like wiping their nose, when they can do this for themselves. Children are served their breakfast and snack. They do not pour their own milk. They provide one-to-one support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). The special educational needs coordinator works closely with parents and professionals. Outdoor space Children benefit from daily opportunities to play and exercise in the fresh air. Sherwood was a fantastic place, the staff were excellent and my son always went in and came home happy after a day there. My son is autistic and the level of help he got was brilliant, he flourished in his time there. There is a great educational curriculum to help the child the first stages of growth and development. The staff, the best and professional people I’ve ever met throughout the years in the educational service. I now have my second child in the school, and they’ve always been on top of everything you can ask off any questions they are quick and the community they have created in the school makes you feel that you’re part of a family. My daughter started at Howard newly and since then she has dropped off and picked up from school by Sherwood pre-school staff. They are very welcoming and my daughter love this place. The commitment of the staff from both Breakfast & Afternoon club is immediately evident. I highly recommend this nursery the staff make your child feel safe and comfortable.
