## About this day nursery

Shoresh is a childcare setting in Hove, registered with Ofsted in 2023, catering to children aged 1 to 4 years. The day nursery fosters a warm and secure environment where children feel confident and settle in quickly with the support of nurturing staff.

5 weeks per year. Shoresh promotes respectful behaviours and actively teaches about Jewish faith, traditions, and celebrations, enriching children's understanding of the world.

The setting follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, and staff are knowledgeable about children's development while being highly responsive to their individual care needs. There is strong support for children who speak English as an additional language, and children benefit from regular outdoor play in the day nursery garden, allowing babies and toddlers to interact with older children and siblings.

The management team is commended by parents for their effective communication and openness to suggestions, demonstrating a clear vision and a robust action plan for continuous improvement. Leaders ensure staff professional development focusing on interactions and mathematics to continually raise teaching standards, and safeguarding arrangements are effective, ensuring children feel safe and secure.

Our ethos

Shoresh means “roots” in Hebrew. We believe children learn best through hands-on exploration, meaningful relationships and strong roots in identity, community and care, and wonder. We're proud to provide a warm, welcoming environment where Jewish traditions and values gently shape the rhythm of daily life. Jewish identity and universal values, such as kindness, welcoming Shabbat with songs and stories and gratitude — are woven into joyfully celebrating festivals and everyday life.

What it's like

Children arrive with excitement as they are warmly greeted by friendly staff. They feel happy and settled as they follow the familiar routine of the day and participate joyfully in activities. All children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities and those who face barriers to their learning, benefit from a well-designed curriculum that incorporates teaching children about Jewish life. Leaders have created a clear action plan to bring about improvements, which has been followed meticulously, and children now benefit from focused teaching and learning opportunities.

We started our child at Shoresh when they were just 9 months old and they've been going for a year now.
