## About this day nursery

The Oaks Centre Ltd, established in 2012, is a spacious and inviting childcare setting in Collier Row, Romford, catering to children aged 2 to 4 years old. 30am to 6pm, the nursery provides full day care, with additional provision for a breakfast club, after-school club, and holiday play scheme.

Children at The Oaks Centre Ltd are happy and secure, benefiting from daily indoor and outdoor play. They develop physical skills through activities such as running, kicking a ball in the large outdoor open space, climbing apparatus, and riding wheeled toys.

The curriculum focuses on all areas of learning, and children enjoy creative activities and trips into the local area. Staff are described as kind and caring role models, and parents generally speak highly of the care and education provided.

However, the latest Ofsted inspection, rated as 'Requires Improvement', highlighted that while the learning environment is interesting, the key-person system is not fully effective, and staff interactions, at times, lack enthusiasm and an in-depth understanding of the curriculum. The nursery is working to address these areas for improvement, particularly regarding behaviour management consistency and ensuring staff receive regular supervision to enhance their practice and curriculum delivery.

Children are supported in developing independence skills and learning about oral hygiene through activities like tooth brushing songs. Partnership with parents is well-established, with opportunities for involvement in nursery events and sharing their job roles with children, such as visits to elderly care homes to broaden children's understanding of the wider world.

What it's like

Children at this spacious and inviting nursery are happy and secure. However, the key-person system is not fully effective, meaning children's needs are not always met. Staff are kind and caring, serving as positive role models, but at times lack enthusiasm and an in-depth understanding of the curriculum.

I am writing this review to share my extremely negative experience at this nursery, particularly concerning the staff's lack of understanding and compassion for children with invisible disabilities. While the space may appear beautiful on the surface, the reality is a complete failure to support both children and their parents. My son, who has special needs, struggled significantly with the transition. Instead of providing the necessary support, a specific staff member, "Jane," was manipulative and dismissive. Not only did she fail to document my son's struggles and actively gaslight me, but when I tried to raise a formal complaint, she told me that there was no one to complain to apart from her. This made it impossible to access the support he desperately needed. This behavior prolonged his suffering and was incredibly detrimental to our family. The staff's attitude and actions show a profound lack of empathy and understanding of the challenges parents of special needs children face. After four months of my son's ongoing distress and my constant pleas for help, I was ultimately told to leave and take him out of the nursery. This was a devastating outcome, and it highlights the establishment's complete lack of willingness to accommodate and support children who don't fit into their narrow idea of "normal." Beyond the lack of care, the facility itself is unsanitary. The surfaces are not properly cleaned, the sink is visibly rotten, and the overall cleanliness is poor. To make matters worse, they allow children with contagious illnesses like conjunctivitis to attend, putting other children at risk. This nursery is not a safe or supportive environment. The staff are, at best, mediocre and untrained. They lack compassion and are more focused on avoiding responsibility than providing the care and support that children deserve. As a parent, I would strongly advise anyone with a child who may need extra support to look elsewhere. As Jane controls all the staff with microaggression and hostility.

Probably the best nursery in the borough. The teachers and management are very involved and dedicated. They have extra activities. They go to the forest, to the farm, to home care and lots more. I can't recomand this nursery enough. My little one was here for two and a half years.
