We were shown around by Maria and the care and enthusiasm the nursery gave I just knew it was the right nursery. The nursery staff are always smiling and keeping us informed of any important dates.\nOur son has settled in really well and clearly feels safe and loved. We love the care that he receive, the play and the learning he’s doing and everytime we pick Arthur up he is filled with smiles and giggles. The staff are flexible and keep an eye out for our son. We love the pictures we receive of him playing with the blocks, making music or even playing with other children. I can’t recommend Wren House enough. It’s a small nursery which means the children receive the attention that they need.\nThe nursery really focus on each child’s learning and development in different ways that suit the child. ## About this day nursery

Wren House Nursery School, a childcare-on-non-domestic-premises setting in Eastbourne (BN21 1QS), opened in 2023 and caters to children aged 1-4 years. Leaders and practitioners at Wren House Nursery School are committed to fostering a consistently positive and inclusive environment where high expectations for behaviour and attitudes are prioritised.

The team works closely with parents to understand each child's unique needs, ensuring they feel secure and can fully access the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum. A notable aspect of the nursery is its dynamic outdoor obstacle course, where children can regularly develop their fine motor skills, balance, and spatial awareness.

The nursery is proactive in identifying and supporting children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) and those who are disadvantaged, collaborating with parents and external specialists to achieve the best outcomes. Parents have expressed feeling supported and reassured that their children are happy, safe, and learning well at the nursery.

The setting has robust safeguarding standards and focuses on preparing children for their next stage of learning.

Our ethos

Wren House Nursery School operates on an ethos of "Learning Through Play," aiming to make education an exciting and joyful experience. The nursery believes in fostering secure attachments, positive relationships, and intrinsic motivation to help children thrive. Their mission is to create a home-from-home environment built on kindness, bravery, and curiosity, encouraging children to explore, try new things, and develop a lifelong love of learning.

What it's like

Leaders and practitioners know the children and their families very well and communicate closely with parents to understand what makes each child unique, ensuring they feel at home and can access the curriculum. Staff provide activities promoting children's development. Children happily access activities, and staff support them to settle, calm down, and learn. Children form strong attachments, and expectations for behaviour are high, leading to positive responses and respect for equipment and peers. Staff use a simple system linked to animals to help children understand and manage emotions.

## Ofsted rating for Wren House Nursery School

Last inspected 28 November 2025

What it's like to attend

Leaders and practitioners know the children and their families very well and communicate closely with parents to understand what makes each child unique, ensuring they feel at home and can access the curriculum. Staff provide activities promoting children's development. Children happily access activities, and staff support them to settle, calm down, and learn. Children form strong attachments, and expectations for behaviour are high, leading to positive responses and respect for equipment and peers. Staff use a simple system linked to animals to help children understand and manage emotions.

Inspector highlights

- Leaders have established a consistently positive environment to promote high expectations for behaviour and attitudes.
- Children have noticeably high levels of respect for staff, each other and resources.
- Leaders prioritise an inclusive learning environment that supports all children to thrive.
- Children are well prepared for their next stage of learning.
- Children are given multiple opportunities throughout the day to practise using their fine motor skills and spatial awareness in a large complex obstacle course outside.

Areas to develop

- 1 Leaders should enhance the opportunities for children to express their own ideas to build on the skills they learn in expressive arts and design.
- 2 Leaders and practitioners should build on their existing skills in extending children's learning more consistently to further enhance their learning.

Inclusion & environment

## How they support every child

SEND provision

Children who are disadvantaged and those who have special educational needs and/or disabilities are quickly identified and supported to minimise gaps in their learning and development. Leaders and practitioners work closely with parents and outside specialists to make sure that adaptations and interventions needed are in place. They regularly review this practice to achieve the best outcomes for children.

Outdoor space

Children are given multiple opportunities throughout the day to practise using their fine motor skills through pinching and squeezing, and they practise balancing, stepping, jumping and spatial awareness in a large complex obstacle course outside. Staff are reflective about what is on offer to ensure that children are inspired and challenged to complete the course. Staff extend an obstacle course in the garden to ensure that children do not have to wait in line for their turn; this has a positive effect on their behaviour.

Wren house was the second nursery that we viewed for our son, immediately I felt that it was the right setting for him. We were shown around by Maria and the care and enthusiasm the nursery gave I just knew it was the right nursery. The nursery staff are always smiling and keeping us informed of any important dates. Our son has settled in really well and clearly feels safe and loved. It’s a small nursery which means the children receive the attention that they need. The nursery really focus on each child’s learning and development in different ways that suit the child. Wren house nursery and staff your all amazing! X

Wren house was our favourite nursery that we viewed, we were immediately met with enthusiastic, friendly, well informed, happy staff. Managed by Maria who keeps us well informed from daily activities to dates for the calendar -well in advance. Our daughter has settled in really well, easily and clearly feels safe and loved. We love the care she gets, the play, development and everytime we pick her up she is filled with smiles. The staff are flexible and keep an eye out for our daughter. We love the pictures of her playing in sand, water and soft play. We can’t recommend Wren House enough. It’s a small nursery with care attention bursting at the seems.

A small privately owned nursery school for children aged 1-5 years. The nursery is fantastic! An amazing setting where you can really see the children's development soar! As a previous nursery assistant at Wren House, I can't recommend it enough! The staff put in every effort to ensure children are happy, healthy and safe. It's a wonderful school and the children are always learning something new in fun and exciting ways. Opening hours between 8:30am - 5:15pm

I couldn't be happier with this nursery. It's small which means we have a really close relationship with staff and I feel very included and informed.
