About this day nursery

623 Club, located in The Scout Hut on Dukes Drive in Curbar, S32 3YF, is a childcare setting on non-domestic premises, registered with Ofsted on 8th May 2024. The club caters for children aged 4 to 10 years, with a total capacity of 30 places.

Operating Monday to Friday from 07:30 to 09:00 and then from 15:00 to 18:00, it provides daily opportunities for outdoor physical play, ensuring children have access to fresh air and exercise. Children attending 623 Club are encouraged to implement hygiene routines such as handwashing before eating, and they enjoy healthy snacks prepared by staff.

The club fosters a sense of community by encouraging children to share their views and suggestions via a "comment box," helping them to feel valued. Staff also work in partnership with parents and local schools to shape activities and experiences, showing an understanding of how to collaborate with professionals for children known to social care.

Despite these efforts, the recent inspection highlighted significant areas for improvement, particularly concerning safeguarding standards, staff support, and overall leadership oversight to ensure children's welfare and a consistently high-quality experience.

What it's like

Children's welfare is not actively promoted within the setting as leaders do not promote an open safeguarding culture. They fail to recognise that safeguarding concerns regarding staff conduct and suitability could occur within the setting. Leaders do not always understand the correct steps to take in the event of allegations or concerns about inappropriate staff behaviour. Children do not consistently learn about expected behaviour boundaries and are not always supported effectively by staff to take part in activities. However, children do behave well when walking back from school.
