Acorn Day Nursery, operated by Acorn Early Years Foundation, champions an ethical, innovative, and sustainable approach to early childhood education. Their philosophy, centred on 'putting children first,' prioritises fostering caring relationships and responsive interactions, nurturing children's social and emotional well-being to contribute to a more connected society.
The organisation is committed to continuous learning and professional development for its staff, striving for excellence in all aspects of childcare practice. A strong emphasis is placed on outdoor learning and play in natural environments, exemplified by their Forest School programmes and site-specific provisions.
They advocate for using natural materials, green practices, and encouraging children to grow their own fruits and vegetables, connecting them with the natural world year-round. As a charitable organisation, Acorn Day Nursery operates without prioritising profit, focusing instead on inclusivity and environmental and financial sustainability.
They aim to inspire the early childhood sector, particularly in outdoor education and staff development.

Inclusion & environment
Partnerships with parents and outside agencies ensure children's needs are met, particularly those with special educational needs and/or disabilities; staff work with parents to support non-verbal children by creating communication boxes to mirror those used at home.
Children enjoy forest school activities and extensive outdoor learning, demonstrating high energy as they plan and carry out physical play such as digging, carrying buckets up hills and jumping in 'lava'. They follow routines for outdoor play (selecting 'wellies') and are taught to manage outdoor risks, for example the 'fire-pit circle'.
