Ashbourne Day Nurseries at Wing, registered in 2023 and located in the grounds of Overstone Combined School, provides full day care for children aged 0 to 4. The nursery received a 'Good' rating in overall effectiveness during its inspection on 4 June 2024.
The manager, despite being in post for a short time, has implemented multiple positive changes. The curriculum is clear and well-sequenced, focusing on developing children's independence and communication skills, and is continually reviewed for its effectiveness.
All children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), make good progress and flourish due to effective staff monitoring and support. Staff collaborate with external professionals to create support plans, and environmental adaptations ensure all children have equal access to the curriculum.
Children demonstrate empathy and play well together, and staff successfully support their behaviour, encouraging them to express emotions and learn good manners, fostering a productive and happy atmosphere. The deeply aware and skilled staff in the baby room excel in language development, using techniques like repeating words and exaggerated mouth movements to broaden vocabulary.
Older children grow into confident and clear communicators. The nursery effectively addresses the impact of increased home working on children's confidence in separating from parents, providing extra support for children and parents.
Parents are kept well-informed through an information-sharing app and appreciate the updates on their children's daily activities and development. Staff are attentive and caring, ensuring young children's home routines for sleeping and feeding are followed, and demonstrating expertise in supporting babies and healthy weaning practices.
The area manager provides good oversight, and both the manager and area manager support staff with supervision and work/life balance, encouraging their professional development.

I work for Ashbourne and absolutely love it! We do our very best to create a warm, home-from-home environment where every child feels valued and cared for. We are lucky to have a large outdoor area, and we truly believe that children thrive through outdoor play. Each week, we offer Forest School sessions and enjoy walks around our local community, giving children the chance to explore, discover, and connect with the world around them.
Read on GoogleFantastic nursery with caring, friendly staff who make every child feel welcome. My little one has come on so much since joining — they’re always excited to go in and talk about what they’ve done each day. The communication and atmosphere are brilliant, couldn’t recommend it enough.
Read on GoogleAwful nursery. My son has severe damage to his teeth due to an “accident” at this nursery. His gums were severely damaged and teeth moved out of place. Constant biting from other children and lack of communication with the staff. Ending with my child being thrown out of nursery after confronting the staff about the biting issue! Please avoid this nursery
