Ashton House Nursery, a family-operated institution since 1988, is passionately dedicated to outdoor childcare, believing that children flourish when connecting with nature and engaging in adventurous play. The nursery emphasises daily outdoor exploration for all ages, with Forest School sessions integrated into their routine within on-site woodlands.
They aim to provide a nurturing environment where children can build resilience, self-belief, and strong character traits through hands-on experiences. The nursery operates across two picturesque locations, Ashton Hayes near Chester and Frodsham, both offering substantial natural spaces for children to thrive.
A key aspect of their approach is encouraging children to learn how to ride bikes, utilising balance bikes to enhance coordination and confidence. The dedicated staff team, seen as role models, are highly qualified and deeply committed to the nursery's ethos, fostering a family-like atmosphere where children feel supported and invested in their development.
Our ethos
Family owned and run since 1988, we are driven by a passion and vision for outdoor childcare. Children are happiest and healthiest within the fresh air of our extensive natural environments, where they are free to connect to nature and to take risks, developing their resilience, self-belief and character. We are hugely passionate about providing a special place where children can create positive memories that they can cherish for a lifetime. Forest school sessions are run in our on-site woodlands as part of daily life. The spectacular surroundings of our two sites at Ashton Hayes, near Chester and Frodsham are unrivaled, providing substantial natural space where our children thrive. We feel proud of every child who is privileged to experience the Ashton House Way. Outdoor learning is at the heart of everything we do at Ashton House, providing every child with the freedom to connect to nature and learn more about the world around them, taking risks and testing out their ideas through authentic ‘hands on’ experiences. Our children thrive and develop a strong sense of character, determined and able to face the challenges that await them with resilience and kindness, compassion, appreciation and courage.

Pre-school children practise physical skills outdoors, for example, balancing and learning to ride two-wheel bicycles.
