About this day nursery

Barns Green Playgroup, established in 1978, is a charitable organisation dedicated to offering a playgroup experience within the village, welcoming children from both the local area and surrounding communities. As a member of the Early Years Alliance, the playgroup benefits from valuable guidance and support.

It also receives assistance from the Early Childhood Services. The playgroup is overseen by a volunteer committee of parents and is staffed by a dedicated team of qualified and experienced childcare practitioners.

Adhering to the statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage, Barns Green Playgroup undergoes regular inspections by Ofsted. The playgroup operates from the Barns Green Village Hall, boasting a picturesque setting that overlooks the village green and offers access to nearby country walks.

The playgroup also features its own garden, allowing children to engage in both indoor and outdoor activities throughout the year. The curriculum is built upon seven key features of effective practice, ensuring comprehensive learning and development for each child.

These principles emphasise equal opportunities, high-quality care, a well-defined curriculum, effective teaching methods, continuous assessment, the development of self-regulation and executive function, and strong partnerships with parents.

Inclusion & environment

How they support every child

SEND provision

Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), and those who are in receipt of additional funding, make outstanding levels of progress from their individual starting points. Precise and rigorous assessments are completed the moment children start. Parents are fully involved in this meticulous process. Funding is used exceptionally well to ensure staff are appropriately trained. This helps to ensure staff continually have the additional skills and knowledge they need to support every child.

Outdoor space

The particular focus on outdoor learning is evident. Staff make full use of the village green setting and the local community to enrich and extend children's learning. For example, they regularly go on walks, carry out simple surveys within the village, and visit places of interest.
