Busy Bees Day Nursery at Sunderland Fulwell is an all-year childcare setting for children aged 0-4 years, open Monday to Friday from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm. The nursery received a Good rating in its latest Ofsted inspection on 23rd November 2022.

Children are warmly greeted, often beaming when interacting with staff and other children, which helps them feel safe and happy. Staff use information from parents to provide targeted support, helping children make good progress from their starting points, including addressing any learning gaps that may have resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The curriculum includes activities designed to encourage children to discuss emotions, understand their uniqueness, and foster positive attitudes towards learning from a young age. This helps children develop emotional security and self-esteem.

The nursery has a well-resourced garden where babies can crawl and walk, with staff supporting them to climb on a rocking horse and use a small slide. Toddlers also explore the large garden, engaging in activities like running, jumping, making marks with large chalks, and practising large movements by walking like dinosaurs, all of which support their physical development and early writing skills.

The Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENDCo) has excellent knowledge of the children, and staff effectively use funding to provide one-to-one support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), working closely with parents and other professionals to ensure they are well supported. Parents consistently report feeling well-informed about activities and routines, praising the approachable staff team and expressing satisfaction with their children's progress and happiness.
