Castle View Day Nursery, registered with Ofsted in 1996 by sisters Sue and Alison, offers childcare services for children aged 3 months to 8 years in Rochester. The day nursery emphasises a caring, stimulating, and happy environment that promotes effective learning.
They focus on providing a "home from home" experience, building on the child's initial learning from their parents and carers. Their pedagogical approach draws inspiration from philosophies like The Curiosity Approach and Reggio Emilia, prioritising natural and authentic resources to foster critical thinking and communication.
The curriculum balances adult-led and child-initiated learning interactions, aiming to provide a broad range of skills for school readiness. Committed to consistency, several long-serving staff members contribute to the stable and nurturing atmosphere.
They also offer a Forest School programme with dedicated leaders, utilising an off-site allotment and woodland area for outdoor education.
Our ethos
At Castle View Day Nursery, it is our mission to maintain a caring, stimulating and happy environment whilst challenging the children to ensure effective learning. We aspire to provide children with a home form home experience – building upon the learning foundations that have been created by each child’s first teacher, their parent(s)/carers. We seek to create an inclusive environment that teaches the children the skills, knowledge and understanding that enables them to be ready to start school but to make the most of later life opportunities.

Inclusion & environment
All children, including those children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), receive highly coordinated levels of support. The SEND coordinator is confident in seeking further support from external agencies if necessary.
Children have fun singing rhymes together, listening to stories in groups, and moving around in the large garden throughout the day.
I recently contacted this nursery to arrange a viewing appointment regarding my two year old. I informed them of my child’s high energy levels and they assured me they were equipped to support him. On the day of the appointment which was scheduled for 2pm, they rang me first thing in the morning to inform me that the place was no longer available. Suspecting dishonesty, I asked a friend to ring them about a place for a 2 year old. Not surprisingly, they confirmed a place was available and booked a viewing appointment. Following this, I called them back to disclose my findings. The nursery manager responded rudely and aggressively, before hanging up on me. I have since reported this incident to Ofsted as no child should be denied a nursery place because of their special needs.
Read on GoogleMy boy has attended here since he was 10 months and is now about to leave to start school in September. I can’t fault this nursery. The staff are all amazing, the setting is fabulous and my boy has thrived here. He loves attending and it’s due to the people that work there and how lovely they all are. When he first started he was tearful (as expected) and they offered extra settling in sessions, reassurance to me and my son and helped in every way they could. Fast forward a few months and he was dragging me up the stairs to go in lol. I can’t recommend this nursery enough!! I’m gutted that we will be leaving the setting
Read on GoogleVery good nursery, would recommend to everyone. Nursery staff are very kind and helpful, all children look happen when I pick my son up. Since my done going to this nursery he is popping up with new words everyday and so much more. Owner is very kind to everyone, easy to manage time with nursery as well. All my other 2 children went to 1st friend day nursery when they were younger, learnt absolutely nothing. I would say this is an outstanding nursery to me, strongly recommend.
Read on GoogleAbsolutely fantastic nursery. Staff are so friendly and really care for the children. My son has been attending for two years and he loves going, he has grown confident and learnt so much he surprises me everyday. The girls who work there are simply brillaint and the owners and office ladies are fab. Everyone has made such an effort with my son and really looked after him I will be sad when he leaves. Best nursery in Medway by far. Highly recommend.
Read on GoogleMy husband and I went to the nursery (we were in the area) in the last week of November 2023 to book a visit to see if we liked this setting or not, for our son who is due to start nursery in September 2024. Spoke to the manager on the doorstep - an elderly lady - who told us she could only arrange a viewing after a month and a half. We were instantly put off by this absurd delay and laid back attitude.
