Epsom Playhouse Pre-School operates as a registered charity, serving local families by reinvesting all proceeds back into the school. It is overseen by an elected Management Committee, comprising volunteer parents, carers, and community members, who function as the charity trustees.
This committee convenes bi-termly to address various aspects such as operations, staffing, resources, budgeting, fundraising, event planning, and policy reviews. The Pre-School achieved a "GOOD" rating from Ofsted in April 2023.
The staff are highly experienced, with most holding an NVQ Level 3 in Early Years care and education, and all undergo thorough background checks. They are committed to continuous professional development, covering critical areas like the Early Years Foundation Stage, special educational needs, safeguarding, and first aid.
The Pre-School strictly adheres to government-mandated staff-to-child ratios, ensuring one practitioner for every five two-year-old children.
What it's like
Children arrive happy and confidently leave their parents and carers. They learn to take care of their own belongings and demonstrate a good sense of belonging. Children are very happy and settled in this friendly pre-school, thoroughly enjoying sensory play and exploring resources with curiosity.
Fees are charged per session, with options for morning sessions, lunch club extensions, and full days. Families receiving government funding are asked for a voluntary contribution each half term to support the pre-school's running costs. Ad-hoc extra sessions can be booked on the day subject to availability.

Verbatim quotes recorded in the Ofsted inspection
Parents are very complementary about the care and education their children receive.
They comment on how they are 'always kept informed' about their child's progress.
Inclusion & environment
Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are supported to a high level. Staff work closely with parents and external agencies to ensure the best outcomes for all children. The manager acts with integrity to ensure children with SEND receive the highest level of support. For example, staff complete specific training to support children's individual needs. This means staff are fully informed about any care or developmental needs to support children.
Children confidently put their coats and boots on to play out in the rain. If children become wet and need to change their clothes, staff give them plenty of time to succeed in their self-care.
Emilia stayed her for 1.5 years, really happy with the nursery, and teachers are great, will definitely send second one to here after 2.
