Finches Pre-school provides a nurturing and engaging environment in Wokingham, focusing on a play-based philosophy where children learn best when they are happy and confident. The pre-school aims to help each child feel settled and a part of the 'Finches family', fostering their confidence, sense of belonging, and self-image.
Following their motto, 'We have fun', the pre-school offers opportunities for learning in a supportive and playful setting. They closely follow the guidance from Ofsted and the Early Years Foundation Stage for planning, observing, and recording children's progress, utilising an online learning resource called Tapestry to share updates with parents and carers.
Recognising that pre-school can be a child's first experience of care outside the home, Finches assigns a key person to each child to ensure they feel loved, welcome, and secure. They operate during term time and accept children from two years old, offering funded spaces as well as paid sessions.
The pre-school also provides a lunch club option and encourages outdoor activities within their extensive grounds, including woodland, a park, and a large field. They also stage twice-yearly productions and host a Sports Day/Summer lunch for families.

Verbatim quotes recorded in the Ofsted inspection
Parents say that the sharing of information, particularly around children's personal development, has helped to grow children's confidence, including outside of the pre-school.
Inclusion & environment
Staff have used new knowledge and strategies from partnerships with speech and language professionals to help review and enhance the pre-school environment. Where children start behind in their speaking skills, staff help them to catch up quickly.
Outside, children push themselves along in ride-in cars as they learn to navigate the space to move around their friends. These activities help to promote and strengthen children's physical skills.
There will never be the words to explain how amazing I think this preschool is. As soon as you visit, you can feel how much the staff care about what they do, making it a home from home for the children whilst giving them endless opportunities to learn, feel safe and just have fun! The setting is brilliant and my son loves being able to use the woodland and park too. I could not be happier that we made this choice for my little one and would recommend to everyone. Thank you Finches!
Read on GoogleI have sent all 4 of my children to Finches Pre School, I remember viewing pre school’s with my eldest a few years back & as soon as we got to viewing Finches - we knew it was the one. We instantly fell in love, the staff are absolutely incredible & all of my children have been so well looked after & loved every minute there. Truly the best start to school life for my little ones. If I could give more than 5 stars I would :-)
Read on GoogleI would definitely recommend Finches pre school. My son is so happy there. The staff are all amazing with the children and they go above and beyond to cater to their individual needs. The village setting is lovely and having the memorial field and park to use is great.
Read on GoogleMy son Elliott attended Finches for two years, he really loved Finches and now he is at school all he talks about it going back. The teachers are so caring, they take the time to get to know each child so they can pick up on any emotional or learning issues. They have an amazing park that they try and get out too as much as they can. Finches is situated in an amazing vilage location too. Once my little girl is old enough she will be going to Finches also.
Read on GoogleWas recommended by others from children attending years ago. All staff are so welcoming. Children’s needs are all met superbly. Love the community feel. My boy has settled in really well and always talks about pre-school.
