Great Beginnings Montessori Nursery School, established in Marylebone, London in 1983 by Mrs. Wendy Innes, provides a nurturing and stimulating learning environment for children aged 2 to 6 years. The nursery focuses on the Montessori method, encouraging each child to develop their full potential through a diverse range of activities.
Individualised plans are created for each child, incorporating their personal interests and developmental stage, alongside group activities to foster social adaptation. The school maintains a low child-to-staff ratio, with sixteen 2-year-olds in one class supported by four staff members, and two mixed-age classes for 3 to 6-year-olds, each with a minimum of three qualified staff for up to twenty-four children.
The curriculum spans practical life skills, sensorial development, language, mathematics, and cultural subjects like science and arts. Wendy Innes, the founder, has a long-standing commitment to Montessori education, maintaining close ties with the Maria Montessori Institute.

Parents state their children have become more confident, independent and have extended their communication skills since attending the nursery.
Inclusion & environment
The manager and staff get to know children well from the start and build on their individual needs. Staff demonstrate a good understanding of what children need to know and learn next. Regular assessments ensure that any gaps are addressed quickly, and that all children make good progress from their starting points.
Staff plan daily activities to support children's physical development. They use the indoor space to extend children's balance and coordination using obstacle courses and organised games. Staff take children on trips to the local park, where they have space to run and develop their spatial awareness.
Many children who attend the nursery speak English as an additional language. However, children are not consistently supported to use their home languages alongside learning English.
