Kiddy Academy Huntscross, established in 2011, is a spacious day nursery specifically designed for children aged 0-5 years. Located on Hansby Drive within the Meridian Business Village, the setting prioritises comprehensive child development through play in a supportive and stimulating environment.
The nursery features three large, open-plan rooms: "BabyTown" for infants up to 2 years, "Toddler City" for 2 to 3-year-olds, and "Schoolville" for preschoolers aged 3 to 5 years. Each room has direct access to dedicated outdoor play areas.
A key aspect of their provision is freshly prepared, nutritious meals from an on-site chef, served in a separate children’s canteen. The nursery fosters a nurturing atmosphere where positive relationships with staff and peers are encouraged.
Experienced staff employ therapeutic behaviour management techniques, praising and encouraging children to develop self-regulation in a secure setting. Further enriching the children's experience are amenities like a highly resourced sensory room and outings using a 6-seater pram bus.
The nursery operates with a strong management team, including a supernumerary nursery manager and a deputy, along with room managers who ensure high standards of care. All staff are trained in paediatric first aid.
What it's like
During the recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, the nursery has had issues with staff retention and recruitment. The newly appointed manager and her team have a clear vision for the nursery. They have identified priorities for children's learning and development, such as supporting children's speech and language development. Children's vocabulary and language structures are developing rapidly.
The nursery charges a daily or half-daily fee for food and enhanced provision. Standard childcare and tuition rates are not detailed in the available text.

Parents talk about the improvements that they have seen in the short space of time that the new manager has been in place.
Inclusion & environment
Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are very well supported. The excellent key-person system and accurate use of assessment mean that gaps in children's learning and any specific needs are identified early and acted on quickly. Learning goals in children's education, health and care plans are seamlessly interwoven into all aspects of the curriculum.
The inspector observed the quality of education being provided indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact that this was having on children's learning. Staff plan many opportunities for children to develop their physical skills outdoors.
