About this day nursery

Into-Play @ Barnwood is a spacious and well-equipped nursery that opened in October 2015, formerly a doctor's surgery. It has rapidly gained success and a strong reputation for providing high-quality early years care in Gloucester.

The nursery features three distinct playrooms catering to Under 2s, 2-3s, and Pre-School children, with a total capacity for 63 children daily. Each playroom boasts its own dedicated outdoor play area, ensuring children can enjoy the outdoors regardless of the weather.

The Under 2s have a safe garden, the 2-3s a decking area with sensory and climbing equipment, and the Pre-School benefits from a large grassy area with a 'forest area' for imaginative play. Into-Play @ Barnwood maintains strong connections with local infant schools like Elmbridge, Dinglewell, and Abbeymead, supporting smooth transitions for children.

The nursery prides itself on high recommendations from families, evidenced by their 'Top 20 Day Nurseries in the South-West' award in June 2023. They focus on professional care and fostering positive relationships through a robust key person system, understanding parents' apprehensions about childcare.

The setting is committed to ongoing staff development and training, ensuring practitioners are highly motivated and adhere to the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage, often exceeding minimum qualification requirements. Each site has a fully trained SENCo, Designated Safeguarding Lead, and Behaviour Management Co-ordinator to address individual needs.

How they support every child

SEND provision

Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities are supported well. Staff work in partnership with parents and external professionals to ensure children receive the support they need to make the best possible progress and are ready for their next educational step.

Outdoor space

Children are eager to explore the inviting activities on offer indoors and outdoors. The inspector observed the quality of education being provided indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact that this was having on children's learning.

EAL / language support

Staff adapt their interactions appropriately to support children who speak English as an additional language. Children display an understanding of key phrases and join in with routine activities, such as song time. However, staff do not always provide them with enough opportunities to hear or use their home language in nursery, in order to further support their early communication and language skills.
