Melrose Preschool, nestled in Milton Keynes, is dedicated to nurturing confident, independent learners who feel ready to embrace the world. " The preschool focuses on providing a solid EYFS foundation to support children in becoming lifelong learners.
Their curriculum implementation aims to equip each child with an "essential toolkit" for their next stage of education. This is achieved by making children feel secure, fostering a positive attitude towards learning, and seeing the preschool as an extension of their family.
They view every child as an individual and incorporate fundamental British Values into all play activities. The staff are committed to individualised support, understanding each child's interests, family background, and community connections to tailor learning experiences.
A strong emphasis is placed on speech and language development, creating a vocabulary-rich environment to help bridge the attainment gap in communication and reading. The curriculum exposes children to a wide range of experiences, ensuring they are well-prepared for reception.
Teaching approaches are flexible and child-centred, incorporating "in the moment" learning to maintain momentum. Learning environments, both indoors and outdoors, are designed to be stimulating, exciting, and accessible, fostering independence and self-confidence.
The preschool also values strong parent partnerships, offering ongoing support and encouraging parental involvement in children's learning journeys. Observations during play serve as assessments of progress through the EYFS, informing future planning and identifying areas for improvement.
Our ethos
Our intent, our overarching goals: A Melrose Preschool child is a confident, independent learner, that feels ‘ready to take on the world’. We believe that by offering every child this solid EYFS foundation, we are supporting children to become lifelong learners, excited by the possibilities ahead of them. Our aim is to equip every unique child with their own ‘essential toolkit’, so that whenever they leave us, they are ready for their next stage of education, confident to ‘take on the world’. We see our pre-school as an extension of your family and want to give children a welcoming, caring, nurturing environment in which to grow and learn. We see every child as an individual and underpin the fundamental British Values into all aspects of our play.
