Newpark Montessori Nursery School in Wandsworth, established in 2014, is situated in a beautifully converted church in the Tonsleys. The nursery features two spacious ground-floor rooms: one dedicated to younger children and another as a well-equipped Montessori preschool classroom, both offering direct access to an outdoor play area and a unique 'inside-outside' garden.

This setting encourages exploration and learning both indoors and in the fresh air. The Infant Community classroom boasts an open-plan design with a marine aquarium and various activity zones for creative play, role-playing, and Montessori practical life exercises.

Our ethos

We firmly believe the Montessori Method provides all the appropriate challenges children need to prepare them for primary school and later life. Our philosophy encourages our educators to interact with babies and children at their level and to promote children’s independence, so all play, activities and eating take place at specially designed low tables and chairs, or on floor mats.

SEND provision

Where possible, children with English as an additional language have a key person who speaks their home language, and staff gather key words to support their communication.

Outdoor space

Children enjoy developing their independence, including practising putting on their shoes to go in the garden. They help plant seeds and water plants in the garden, which are then harvested and eaten, helping them learn about where food comes from.

Newpark is an absolute delight. The teachers are kind, attentive, and feel genuinely invested in our children. Our daughter attended Newpark from the age of 6 months until she left for Primary School, and my son is still there. The community of parents who go are equally welcoming and friendly. Overall, I couldn't have asked for a better start in life for both of my kids.

Our son attended Newpark from the age of 1-4 years, and our daughter still goes there. We have many nurseries a lot closer to our home than Newpark, yet we decided to go with Newpark as it felt like the most wonderful place for our young children to grow and develop, and we weren’t wrong! They really do nurture development and education in a gentle, yet challenging and playful way. The setting is quite small and we were a little hesitant about lack of space for running around but they ensure the children are both active and challenged throughout the day - they do gardening, sports, yoga and Spanish ‘lessons’, it’s brilliant! The teachers are excellent; there is no app so communication is via the teacher at the end of the day, which is so much nicer (we trust the teachers to care and look after our children and like the fact that they aren’t behind screens, constantly having to update an app.) Our children are genuinely excited to go to nursery and are happy, sociable and curious children because of it - we couldn’t be happier with Newpark.

We were recommended this nursery by friends whose children also attend, and we’re so glad we took their advice. Our daughter absolutely loved her time there, she was genuinely excited to go in each day and always came home happy. One standout feature for us was the earlier 7:30 AM opening time, which was a huge help as working parents. It made our mornings so much easier and gave us real peace of mind. We couldn’t be happier with our experience.

My two girls attended this nursery from the age of 1 until they started at primary school. They were both extremely well cared for and had the most wonderful time and they were both prepared so beautifully for the step up to primary school. They have made some great friends while attending the nursery who we are still in regular contact with. The staff at the school are brilliant. I can't find any fault with Newpark and only have good things to say about them. Thank you for everything you did for our girls. :)

Our first child went to the nursery for two years between 2016-2017 and was immensely happy, all staff was very kind and thoughtful, and they really applied the Montessori principles which we appreciated highly. In 2017, when our second child was born, we applied for a new place on the waiting list. Unfortunately, it's been more than 3 years now and we never heard back, however we did not remove ourselves from the waiting list. The new manager of the nursery did not share any empathy with us , refusing to tell us anything about where we stood on the waiting list and the entire process was simply awful, and very different from what we were used with the previous manager, Ursula, when we signed up first. In the end, we have stopped being interested in the nursery as we assumed that with new management things have definitely changed and it would not have been an appropriate place for our child to grow. Our rating would have definitely been higher if we did not have this poor application experience which we have not find at any of the other nurseries we spoke to after. Things may have changed in the meantime and anyone who is considering it should carefully assess the empathy of the nursery manager. From our experience with 2 children and another one on the way, we have found this is extremely important.
