Pied Piper Pre-School, located in a Portacabin on the grounds of Earls Barton Primary School in Northampton, has been a nurturing environment for over 40 years. Led by a manager with two decades of experience in childcare and safeguarding, the pre-school prides itself on its dedicated team.

All full-time staff members are Level 3 qualified, with three holding current paediatric first aid and DBS clear certificates. Part-time staff are actively working towards Level 2 qualifications, also possessing DBS certificates and paediatric first aid training.

The team regularly attends professional development courses, and a fully trained SENCo ensures continuous knowledge enhancement. Pied Piper Pre-School is registered for up to 20 children per session, accommodating children aged 2 years 6 months to 4 years 11 months.

They maintain a higher-than-Ofsted-required staff-to-child ratio, with 4 staff members per session. The pre-school operates term-time only, for 38 weeks of the year, offering both morning and afternoon sessions, with the option for full day care with a packed lunch.

Our priority at the beginning of the school year is to settle the children into pre-school and each child given as much time and help they require.

How they support every child

SEND provision

Staff provide tailored support for all children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). This helps ensure that children make good progress from their starting points in learning. Support for children with SEND is strong. Staff work tirelessly with professionals to ensure that referrals are made swiftly. As a result, children get the right help to narrow any emerging gaps in learning.

Outdoor space

Children enjoy a variety of fun activities outdoors that support their physical development. They run around vigorously with staff while they play games, such as hide and seek, in the secure and inviting garden. Children benefit from opportunities to explore the natural environment. For example, staff share their knowledge with children about how to plant seeds and grow flowers and vegetables.
