Inclusion & environment
Leaders ensure that there are appropriate arrangements in place to support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities. They work closely with families and professionals to develop and carry out effective targeted intervention strategies, such as focused small groups and using additional funding for lower staffing ratios. This ensures all children can access the curriculum and individual strategies are effective.
Leaders prioritise the continuous professional development of staff, including undertaking targeted training to enhance the quality of outdoor play. This has a positive impact on children's learning in the outdoor environment. Staff support the development of problem-solving and teamwork skills effectively, such as during exploration of the large-scale water area.
The nursery provides an inclusive environment where staff value each child as an individual and supports them in their stage of learning. Staff generally have high expectations and closely monitor progress so that all children achieve well. Staff quickly identify children who need additional help and support those facing barriers, including short-term difficulties, such as changes in family circumstances.
We couldn’t be happier with the care our son Oliver has received at Playaway Totton. From the very first day, the entire team made us feel completely at ease and welcomed Oliver as part of their family. The staff are not only kind and patient but also incredibly skilled at helping children learn, grow, and gain confidence in a fun and nurturing environment. Every day, Oliver comes home full of excitement, eager to tell us about the new activities, songs, and games he’s enjoyed. It’s been wonderful to see how much he’s developed socially and emotionally since joining Playaway — he’s become more independent, curious, and happy to explore new things. The communication from the team is excellent; we always feel up to date with what’s happening and love receiving the photos and updates that show how much fun he’s having. It’s so reassuring to know he’s in such capable and caring hands. We truly can’t thank the Playaway Totton staff enough for everything they do. It’s clear they go above and beyond for every child, and it shows in the smiles and laughter that fill the setting each day. We would wholeheartedly recommend Playaway Totton to any parent looking for a safe, supportive, and inspiring place for their child to thrive.
Read on GoogleThe staff here have been nothing but incredible. They have been so accommodating, helpful and supportive. Both of my children have/do attend this nursery and they really are a wonderful at what they do. When it came to my eldest son who has difficulties, they helped every way they could making it easier for him, helped me with preparing him for school and helped with getting him all the right support in his early years. Without their help and knowledge, I would not have got this far. They really are amazing at what they do and if I could have kept him there for a few more years, I would have. My youngest loves being here and I know he is going to flourish just as much as his brother has and it is all down to this wonderful nursery and the amazing people who work here.
Read on GooglePlayaway have developed strong relationships with our son and he seems really happy there, he talks about his carers all the time which for me shows he has them in mind :)
Read on GoogleWe've been so happy with PlayAways. The staff are warm, friendly and really take the time to get to know your child and their personality. In the older class they work with the kids on phonics, penmanship etc, to get them ready for school. My daughter loves it here.
Read on GoogleIt is with great regret that I find myself writing this review, as my experience at your facility was deeply disappointing and, in my opinion, a waste of both money and time. Despite our best efforts as parents to teach our son basic habits, such as telling him when he had the urge to do his business, eating politely at the table, using napkins appropriately and wiping his nose, all of this was wasted during his stay at your nursery. My son regularly returned with dirty clothes, often requiring three changes a day. These behaviors not only show a lack of attention, but also demonstrate that the teachings imparted at home were not being adequately supported by you. Furthermore, the environment did not appear clean or welcoming, and the sense of hypocrisy that shone through left me very perplexed. It is unacceptable that a place that should encourage children to grow and learn seems to neglect these basic principles. After a few days at another facility, I noticed a significant and positive change in my son, a sign that a different approach is not only possible, but necessary. Finally, I would like to highlight an unpleasant perception: it seems that in your facility distinctions are made based on social rank or culture, a behavior that I find unacceptable in an educational context. I hope that this experience of mine can be a starting point for reflection to improve the service you offer. Parents place their trust and expectations in your hands, and the least that can be expected is an environment that reflects professionalism, respect and attention for each child.
