About this day nursery

Purple Lion Day Nursery Wapping, established in 2022, is a welcoming and nurturing childcare setting catering for children aged 0–4 years. Open all year round from 8am to 6pm, the nursery provides a full day care service.

Ofsted rated the nursery as 'Good' following its latest inspection on 24th February 2025. Children are observed to arrive happily, settling in comfortably due to staff taking the time to learn about their individual interests, home lives, and developmental stages.

There is a strong sense of love and kindness throughout the nursery, with staff dedicated to ensuring every child feels included and seen, a sentiment echoed by parents who describe the staff as "caring and loving". Leaders and staff work in close collaboration with parents and other professionals to offer personalised support, ensuring that all children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), make good progress.

The curriculum is well-thought-out and ambitious, focusing on what children need to learn next and skilfully capturing their interests. Children enjoy a rich variety of activities and experiences, demonstrating strong independence skills, such as clearing their plates and putting on their own shoes.

Outdoor learning is a significant part of the daily routine, with children spending a lot of time outside. This focus on fresh air and exercise contributes to their strong physical development, for example, as they independently put on gardening gloves to prepare bulbs for planting or use tongs to collect "minibeasts" in the garden.

Staff actively support children's communication and language development by providing narratives during play and introducing new vocabulary, along with songs and nursery rhymes. The nursery also promotes healthy lifestyles, including oral health awareness.

I have been here to do facepainting for the opening day . This is a wonderful nursery. The managment team and staff are very warm, caring and professional. I would highly recommend for a fantastic early years experience for both parents and their children.

We've had a wonderful time at Purple Lion for a year. Only had to go because we moved away. They are very caring, prepare lots of activities for the babies and our toddler has very fond memories of her teachers and friends. The garden is a big bonus!
