YMCA Worcestershire's Squirrels Nursery in Redditch operates with a philosophy centred on fostering wonder and memorable experiences, nurturing children's natural curiosity and creativity. The nursery aims to provide a rich educational environment where purposeful acquisition of skills and knowledge goes hand-in-hand with individual growth, preparing children to be well-rounded, happy individuals ready for a dynamic world.

They believe in an ambitious curriculum that enhances the cultural capital of every child and family, aligning with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework and referencing 'Birth to Five Matters' for an enhanced curriculum. Children are encouraged to develop age-appropriate independence, strong communication skills, and care for themselves and their environment.

The nursery strives for children to build positive relationships with peers and understand the value of friendship. Squirrels Nursery focuses on holistic development, aiming for children to leave pre-school with foundational knowledge in numbers, writing, reading, early science, and ICT, alongside the independence and social skills necessary to thrive.

How they support every child

SEND provision

Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities receive care and support from staff who are knowledgeable about what these children know and can do and what they need to do next. The planned curriculum is inclusive for all, offering children a variety of fun experiences that support their all-round development. Consequently, all children make good progress in relation to their starting points.

Outdoor space

The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities, indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this had on children's learning. Children learn to understand the importance of keeping active and healthy. They participate in early morning 'wake up and shake up sessions', exercising their bodies in preparation for the day ahead.
