Scallywags Parent Partnership Nursery, established over two decades ago by parents, operates as a cooperative with a strong community focus and ongoing parental engagement. Led by long-standing Nursery Manager Debbie Bull and a dedicated team of educators, the day nursery fosters a unique environment where children, parents, and staff mutually value and respect one another.

Many families return with additional children, contributing to this special atmosphere. The day nursery maintains its community-based approach through robust working relationships with parents, who actively participate in their child's early development by undertaking roles such as assisting with activities or food shifts, contributing to maintenance days, and supporting fundraising efforts.

The positive results achieved at Scallywags stem from the collaborative efforts of staff and parents working towards shared objectives. The nursery's primary goal is to promote the learning and development of each child by providing a stimulating range of experiences that enable them to comprehend their world through play.

This is all accomplished within a joyful and well-structured setting where children are encouraged to develop social competencies and learn to recognise and manage their emotions. Located on the ground floor of the Mowlem Children and Family Centre in London E2 9DL, the premises feature two spacious nursery rooms for various activities and learning environments, two distinct gardens equipped with engaging playground equipment and planting areas, children's and adult toilets, a kitchen, and an office.

The nursery is a charitable incorporated organisation, registered with the UK's Charity Commission, and holds an OFSTED rating of 'Good' from its July 2022 inspection.

What it's like

Children receive warm and nurturing care and are confident and comfortable in the environment. Staff support children's communication and language development by asking effective questions. Secure relationships with staff mean that children are confident to let adults know of their needs and wishes, and seek support from them when needed.
