Shooting Stars Nursery School, established in January 2020, operates across two locations in Basingstoke: Old Down Hall and Kempshott Village Hall. The nursery caters to children aged 6 months to 5 years, providing full-day and term-time only spaces from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday, 50 weeks a year.
A key aspect of their approach is "in the moment planning," where they observe children's engagement and build learning around their interests rather than pre-planned activities. They provide diverse hands-on learning experiences and aim to develop the whole child, focusing on emotional and physical readiness for school.
This includes fostering a growth mindset and teaching emotional regulation. The nursery prides itself on high adult-to-child ratios and offers breakfast, lunch, and tea.
They also collaborate with Hampshire County Council to provide universal and extended funded education.
Our ethos
The nursery's approach is centred on "in the moment planning," which involves observing children's interests and building learning around them, rather than relying on pre-planned activities. They focus on developing the whole child, including emotional and physical readiness for school, fostering a growth mindset, and teaching emotional regulation.
What it's like
Children are happy and eager to arrive, confidently entering the nursery despite parents not being able to enter due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The environment provides many opportunities for children to create, explore, and be curious, leading them to be keen to learn and try new experiences. They thoroughly enjoy their play and learning, showing strong behaviour and attitudes to learning, and are well-prepared for their next stage of learning.
