• Ensure all leaders and staff have sufficient knowledge and understanding to implement effective risk assessment procedures.
• Take all reasonable steps to remove or minimise children's exposure to risks.
• Ensure children are not able to access food and drink which has not been stored correctly, or may be harmful to their health.
• Ensure that effective arrangements are in place to support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities, with particular regard to making timely referrals to other agencies and implementing targeted plans to help children make the progress of which they are capable.
• Implement an effective key-person system which provides children with care that is tailored to meet their individual needs.
• Implement robust recruitment and vetting procedures, with particular regard to adhering to the setting's policy and procedures in respect of obtaining appropriate references for new staff.
• Maintain an accurate daily record of children's hours of attendance.
• Ensure that outdoor activities are planned and taken on a daily basis.
• Ensure leaders and managers have sufficient skills and oversight of the setting to identify and address weaknesses to keep children safe.
• Provide staff with appropriate training and professional development opportunities to ensure they can keep children safe and offer quality learning and development experiences for children that continually improve.
• Ensure all leaders and staff, including the designated safeguarding lead have a secure knowledge and understanding of safeguarding procedures, including how to identify, respond and act on concerns about children's welfare.
• Ensure all leaders and staff know how to respond, record and effectively refer concerns or allegations related to safeguarding in a timely and appropriate way.
• Make sure that leaders and staff implement effective procedures when allegations are raised about staff.
• Ensure that any safeguarding concerns about children are reported to the appropriate agencies in a timely manner.
• Maintain accurate and organised records for the safe and efficient management of the setting, with particular regard to safeguarding records.
• Improve partnerships with parents and other settings or agencies involved in children's care to ensure sufficient information is obtained and shared to meet children's individual needs.
• Ensure that there is effective leadership and oversight from the provider in order to provide a high-quality and safe provision for children.
• Ensure that records relating to individual children are maintained accurately and reviewed regularly so their needs are effectively met.
• Ensure there are robust recruitment procedures that adhere to the setting's policy and procedures.
