Smiles Nursery - Frederick Nattrass, established in 2018, operates from the grounds of Frederick Nattrass Primary School in Norton, Stockton-on-Tees. This "Good" rated nursery provides full day care for children from birth to 12 years, with a capacity for 70 children and a roll of 131.
It opens all year round, Monday to Friday, from 6:30 am to 6:30 pm. The dedicated team of 20 childcare staff includes a manager with qualified teacher status and a company manager with a level 4 childcare qualification, with the majority holding a relevant Level 3 qualification in childcare.
The nursery provides wrap-around care to local schools and effectively uses early years pupil premium funding and a dedicated sensory room to support children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Staff promote a strong sense of community, encouraging children to participate in community events and charity work, fostering kindness, acceptance, and consideration for one another.
Parents are kept informed of their child's day through pictures of staff and menus displayed in the hallway, an innovation implemented since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Inclusion & environment
Children with SEND are effectively supported. Staff who provide one-to-one support know their needs exceptionally well and develop effective partnerships with other professionals. This helps children to reach their full potential and promotes consistency. A sensory room has been developed to support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).
Children benefit from opportunities to learn and run around outdoors. Staff use one of the gardens to teach them about how to grow vegetables.
Children who speak English as an additional language (EAL) are supported through good quality interactions with staff who show excitement in activities and encourage language development.
