Springfield Day Nursery, located in the heart of Bury St Edmunds, has a long-standing history as a childcare provider. The nursery offers comprehensive full-day care for children from birth up to school age, with options for both full-time and part-time attendance.
Operating from 7:45 am to 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday, the nursery is open all year, closing only during the Christmas and New Year period and on Bank Holidays. The facility is organised into three distinct rooms, catering to the varying developmental stages and ages of the children.
A notable feature is the extensive outdoor garden, designed to facilitate a wide range of outdoor activities, encouraging physical development and fostering an understanding of nature and the environment. The nursery prioritises the safety and well-being of its children, with a strong focus on ongoing staff training and development.
This includes a degree-led setting with staff holding childcare qualifications at Level 2 or higher, and specific training in paediatric first aid and food safety. The commitment to an inclusive environment is evident in its approach to Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND), ensuring individual needs are recognised and met through close collaboration with families and professionals.

Inclusion & environment
The special educational needs coordinator ensures that children with special educational needs and/or disabilities are offered good support. She is swift to work in partnership with parents, and other professionals, in order to help these children reach their full potential.
The curriculum is equally strong inside and outdoors. Older children learn to care for living things, as they feed the chickens that live in the nursery garden and see if they have laid eggs. The inspector observed staff interaction with the children, both inside and outside, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.
All children, including those who speak English as an additional language or are slower to speak, benefit from a language rich environment. Staff provide commentary and support correct pronunciation. Children hear new vocabulary as they sculpt shapes using shaving foam. Parents receive some ideas to continue learning at home. However, those with children who are learning to speak English as an additional language are not so well supported to help their children to hear and practise speaking English at home.
