About this day nursery

Sunshine Day Nursery offers a holistic approach to early childhood education, fostering growth and development in a welcoming and nurturing environment. The day nursery provides a wealth of resources in each of its rooms, encouraging a blend of child-led and structured play to spark imagination and independent thought.

Inspired by various educational theories, including the curiosity approach, forest schools, and Reggio Emilia, the dedicated team tailors their methods to suit each child's unique interests and developmental stage. With over 190 years of combined experience and 34 years in operation, the staff are committed to instilling resilience, ambition, and curiosity in every child.

Each child benefits from a key person who closely observes their progress, ensuring they are settled, happy, and stimulated. This key person also collaborates with parents to align home routines with the nursery's enriching activities.

The nursery prioritises a language-rich environment to support effective communication and encourages creative, messy play to provide valuable learning opportunities and facilitate cooperative interaction.

Our ethos

We don’t follow one specific approach to education but draw inspiration from a number of theorists and processes; tailoring them to our children, their interests and stages of development. It is our team that sets us apart, with their passion, knowledge and experience. We all work with the shared vision of equiping our children with Resilience, Ambition and Curiosity. We draw strongly on the curiosity approach, as well as finding inspiration in aspects of forest schools and the teachings of Reggio Emilia. Children’s interests and play are at the centre of what we do; our team have combined over 190 years of experience in applying this approach to early learning and we have supported thousands of children and their families in the 34 years we have been open.

My 1 year old daughter has been attending Sunshine Days for a couple of months now & I can say with absolute confidence it was the right choice for us. In the short space of time she's been there, she has developed so much more. I get lots of updates during the day from the lovely staff which puts my mind at ease. I was very anxious on the lead up to her starting nursery but I feel comfortable and confident she is happy when I drop her off every week. I love going in at the end of the day and seeing her pointing at the family photos on the wall and cuddling up to the girls, it's the best part of my day seeing her happy in that setting.

Both of my children go to Sunshine three days a week, one in preschool and one in babies. Everybody that works in the nursery is amazing with both of them. I can’t speak more highly of the staff, they are great at what they do and both of my children have strong bonds with them. The nursery is well equipped and the curriculum they follow is exactly that of a school nursery. Both of my children have learnt so much from them and I can’t recommend the nursery enough.

Our little Grandson has been attending Sunshine Day Nursery since he was a baby (he is now 3). This nursery and all staff should be awarded an Ofsted Outstanding as their care, compassion and professional approach, not only with the children, but also involving and supporting the whole family is so welcome and appreciated. My Grandson continues expanding his skills, knowledge and understanding in his journey with Sunshine 🌞 in all aspects of his learning and development. Having viewed many nurseries in the area initially, this nursery is way above the rest (and we went far afield). Many thanks to the team and we look forward to you welcoming our Granddaughter soon :)

Our daughter has been going to sunshine since she was 4 and a half months old. She has been through babies, tweenies and now pre school. She has loved every step of her journey with sunshine and has been nurtured throughout. She looks forward to going and is so animated about her day when she comes home. The staff are kind, caring and very professional and I would highly recommend this nursery to anyone.
