The Mulberry Bush Day Nursery in Birmingham provides care and education for children from birth to four years old. It operates all year round, closing for public holidays and one week at Christmas. The opening hours are 7:30am to 5:30pm from Monday to Friday, with the exception of a 5:00pm close on Thursdays. The day nursery receives funding for eligible two, three, and four-year-olds. Ofsted inspected the nursery in November 2024 and gave it an overall rating of Good.

The inspector found that teaching is consistently strong, with staff planning the environment to provide developmentally appropriate activities. Children's language skills are supported through a progressive approach that includes the use of sign language. Staff provide targeted support for children with special educational needs or disabilities, particularly for speech and language delay. Older children can choose between indoor and outdoor play, while babies have opportunities to gain control of their movements. Parents told the inspector that their children love attending the nursery.

How they support every child

SEND provision

Staff plan teaching interventions to support children who experience speech and language delay. They use a wide repertoire of strategies, including using objects alongside words, and exercises to support their mouth muscles. The special educational needs coordinator spoke to the inspector about how they support children with SEND.

Outdoor space

Babies benefit from opportunities to gain control of their movements, such as travelling through and around furniture. Older children choose whether they want to play indoors or outdoors and have free flow.
