The Octagon Family Hub in Hull serves as a welcoming community space, offering a variety of services to support children, young people, and their families. Their dedicated team provides midwifery clinics, engaging play and stay sessions, healthy lifestyle activities, and parenting support programmes, alongside youth provisions.
The hub collaborates with Fenchurch Family Hub to enhance its outreach and impact. Families are encouraged to visit and explore the facilities and extensive support available.
Registration is required to access their services. They also host a range of activities, some of which require a small voluntary contribution, and others are free.
These activities include messy and sensory play for babies and toddlers, baby sensory sessions, breastfeeding support, nature-inspired creative play, and art, music, and movement sessions for pre-schoolers. Most sessions run during term-time, and updates on local events and offers are shared via their Facebook page.
What it's like
Children happily arrive at the nursery and are welcomed by caring staff who make them feel safe and secure. They quickly settle into the routine of the day and know what is expected of them, resulting in very good behaviour and manners. Children's communication and language development is highly prioritised, with staff building on their existing vocabulary and consistently modelling good language, leading to good progress in speaking and listening, including for those who speak English as an additional language.
Charges are structured as small voluntary contributions per family for specific activity sessions. Breastfeeding support and play sessions are provided free of charge.

Inclusion & environment
There is a clear curriculum to support children's learning and development, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Staff understand the needs of individual children extremely well, enabling them to adapt and introduce new activities. The nursery special educational needs coordinator is experienced and knowledgeable, working closely with key persons and families to ensure timely interventions and targeted support, with additional funding used to support interventions and reduce learning gaps.
Staff provide a range of opportunities for children to be active and develop their physical skills. For example, children learn to balance on the see-saw, wooden beams and bikes, and show good physical control as they dig and sieve in the large sand pit. Staff talk to children about keeping safe outdoors.
Great changes. We are very happy with the care for our child.Staff are excellent, positive and caring .100%recommended.
