The Old Fire Station Nursery, located in the picturesque Berkshire countryside between Reading and Newbury, offers a nurturing and stimulating environment for young children. Established in 2012, the nursery operates from the charming Old Fire Station on the Englefield Estate, providing a unique historical setting.
Owned by Duncan and Sue Highet, the nursery prides itself on delivering a balanced, safe, and secure learning experience. Children are encouraged to explore and learn through engaging, play-based activities, all guided by a team of fully qualified and experienced staff.
The curriculum follows the Early Years Foundation Stage framework, ensuring a comprehensive educational foundation. The nursery fosters a friendly atmosphere, inviting prospective families to connect via their contact page to schedule a visit and learn more about their offerings.

Parents speak very positively about the nursery. They say staff are kind and caring, and they feel completely confident that their children are happy and kept safe.

Inclusion & environment
Managers monitor children's progress closely. They accurately identify where children may need extra support and work closely with parents and other professionals to implement strategies as needed. Managers use additional funding very thoughtfully, always with children's best interests in mind, to ensure their inclusion in the setting and extra-curricular activities.
The inspector observed the quality of education being provided, indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact that this was having on children's learning.
The staff are all amazing, and the Nursery Manager Sophie is very communicative, professional and friendly. Kids are happy, safe and entertained. The nursery is in a great location and have been coming here for around 3 years. Thank you to everyone at the Old Fire Station Nursery.
