Windrush Nursery provides a nurturing environment for children aged 18 months to 5 years, operating from a purpose-built wooden building in a large garden within West Dean, Salisbury. Established for 33 years, with 29 years at its current location, the nursery prioritises a safe, secure, and happy atmosphere where children can develop at their own pace across physical, intellectual, social, and emotional domains.
The curriculum incorporates indoor and outdoor activities, leveraging the expansive garden and regular visits to local woods to provide a rich and engaging learning experience. The nursery benefits from the owner's husband, a local sheep farmer, who introduces children to nature, wildlife, and farm life, including visits to lambing sheds and tractor rides.
The dedicated team focuses on careful planning of activities, catering to all stages of child development, and regularly communicates with families through Tapestry photos and observations. The passion for educating and inspiring children has remained a cornerstone of the nursery for over three decades.

Inclusion & environment
Staff observe the children throughout the day, assessing accurately what they need to learn next. They identify quickly when children may need additional support and put strategies in place to close any gaps in children's learning.
The manager has built and extended a wooden building specifically for the children to use in the garden, to extend outdoor play. Children enjoy regular forest school sessions and learn about the natural world. They learn to balance and steer a variety of wheeled toys skilfully around the garden. They climb across, over and under frames, and jump on a trampoline.
