Young Sussex Nursery in Brighton, established in 1995, provides a nurturing environment for children across different age groups. The day nursery was formed after Young Sussex took over Mothercraft's nursery near Seven Dials, later expanding into an adjoining building.
It embraces a "home from home" philosophy, offering dedicated, age-specific rooms and a secure, multi-level outdoor play area. Babies, known as Bear Cubs, have their own ground-floor entrance, a private decked play area, a sleep room, kitchen, and dedicated garden, quiet, and messy play rooms.
Tiger Cubs, the toddlers, occupy six play areas on the middle floor, designed for exploration, creativity, and social interaction, sharing a large, safely zoned garden with other age groups. Preschool children, or Lion Cubs, have the entire top floor to explore various learning areas, preparing them for school with the guidance of experienced practitioners.
The day nursery encourages independence and choice in learning, aiming to provide a high-quality experience despite not being the cheapest option available. They include breakfast, snacks, milk, formula, nappies, wipes, and suncream in their fees, with hot lunches available as an optional extra.
The nursery is managed by Daniela Rae, who herself is a parent and understands the needs of families.

Parents speak extremely highly about the setting and staff.
They greatly appreciate the professional support they receive to help further their children's learning and development.
Parents speak of the excellent progress their children make and how well prepared they are for their future learning.
Inclusion & environment
All children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), make impressive progress. Shared planning with parents, particularly for children with SEND, helps to ensure continuity of practice and that children's needs are fully met.
In the garden, toddlers smell herbs and spices as they add them to their cooking. The outside environment has been enhanced even further to give children without gardens a wider range of opportunities for play.
Children who speak English as an additional language are exceptionally well supported and included. Staff sing simple songs in the children's home languages, for instance. This gives them a sense of belonging and helps all children learn about others.
Young Sussex is a wonderful nursery. They took very good care of my child, which helped to develop her in many ways! The session timing helped me to get childcare that fit my schedule. Everyone was caring and sweet, so my daughter became very attached to everyone there. I would recommend this nursery without hesitation.
Read on GoogleWe’ve recently moved to Brighton and our two children have been attending Young Sussex Nursery on Dyke Road since. The nursery made us all feel very welcome and provided the children with a wonderful, caring and stable environment during the move. The staff are all incredibly knowledgable and passionate about providing excellent care for the children. They also offer wonderful advice and support to parents. We can’t praise the nursery highly enough and we will be forever grateful to them for all their kindness and warmth in our children’s precious first years.
