Abacus Nursery offers a nurturing and stimulating environment for children aged 6 months to 5 years, prioritising high-quality education and security. Located within Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield, the nursery boasts a spacious building designed to foster exploration and learning.

Children benefit from a large, secure outdoor area thoughtfully divided into age-appropriate sections, promoting discovery at their own pace. A unique "Forest Garden" allows children to engage with and learn about the natural world.

The dedicated and experienced team provides individualised care, building upon each child's existing skills within the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework. The nursery provides a multi-sensory room with a bubble tube, twinkling carpet, and fibre optic curtains to create a calming and stimulating environment.

The nursery currently has long waiting lists across all age groups and is only accepting applications from employees of Mid Yorkshire Hospital NHS Trust and South West Yorkshire NHS Trust.

How they support every child

SEND provision

Staff place an emphasis on supporting children with special educational needs and/or disabilities. They work in close partnerships with a wide range of other professionals to put plans in place to support children to reach their full potential.

Outdoor space

Children make active use of an outdoor forest environment, hiding behind trees and bushes, pretending to be bird watchers, and discussing birds and insects. Younger children sweep leaves and prepare bikes, while older children carry containers of leaves to the forest area, developing physical skills and cooperation.
