Acorn Playgroup & Pre-School, established in 2013, is a childcare setting for children aged 2 to 4 years located in Welwyn, Hertfordshire. Operating term-time only from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday to Friday, the setting provides a nurturing environment where children thrive and are extremely well-prepared for school.

The playgroup prioritises a broad and inclusive Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, tailored to individual needs, fostering high levels of independence and strong bonds between children and staff. Leaders and staff are committed to inclusion, providing exceptional tailored support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), ensuring swift identification of needs and successful progress.

Children enjoy a calm atmosphere both indoors and outdoors, developing physical skills and understanding safety in different weather conditions. The setting also places a strong emphasis on children's safety and welfare, with robust safeguarding practices in place.

Parents consistently recognise the positive impact of the playgroup, appreciating the warm and trusting relationships staff build with children. The culture of respect and high expectations leads to courteous behaviour and collaborative play among the children.

Leaders continually review and enhance aspects of the provision, including obtaining detailed information from parents to effectively support each child's learning journey.

Our ethos

Acorn Playgroup and Pre-School is committed to creating a secure space where children can learn and develop independence and confidence. They focus on individualised care, working closely with families to extend each child's knowledge and support their growth, and are trained in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

Pricing & funding

Fees are charged per three-hour session or per hour, with an additional daily option for lunch club. Invoices are billed and paid on a half-termly basis. A registration fee applies to secure a place, though this is waived for children starting with government childcare funding.
