Barbies Footsteps in St Peters, Broadstairs, provides care for children aged from birth to four years. The day nursery is open on weekdays from 8am to 6pm for most of the year. In June 2023, Ofsted rated the provision as Outstanding, finding that children are incredibly happy and settled. The inspector highlighted the outdoor learning space and forest school, where children grow vegetables and learn to assess and manage risks.
The report noted a well-sequenced curriculum and a consistently high standard of teaching which fosters independence in play and self-care. Support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities was described as excellent. Ofsted found that funding is used effectively and that small daily intervention groups are organised to help children build key skills, such as listening and attention.

Barbies Footsteps aims to provide a safe and nurturing environment for children. They believe in a play-based curriculum to encourage learning, social development, and self-expression. The nursery focuses on helping children reach their full potential, instilling a sense of achievement, and developing self-confidence through a variety of tasks and activities. They also encourage concentration through activities like story and snack times.

Inclusion & environment
Support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) is excellent. The special educational needs coordinator (SENCo) swiftly intervenes if children need further help. Small daily intervention groups focus on building key skills, for example listening and attention. Funding is used effectively to ensure that children who need support achieve the best possible outcomes.
Children eagerly rush off to their forest school to start their day. Children are very friendly and behave well as they seek adventures in the wonderful outside learning space. In forest school, children talk about the vegetables that they are growing, learning new words such as 'seed pod', 'mange tout' and 'runner bean'. Children learn to assess and manage risks during their adventures in the outdoor play area and forest school.
The most fantastic nursery. Our twins are cared for by exceptional staff that go the extra mile (and some!) in ensuring their social and developmental needs are met. I only wish they could attend more hours. Highly recommend!
