About this day nursery

Blackshaw Nursery, established in January 1982, offers full and part-time childcare services from a purpose-built facility located within the grounds of St. George’s Hospital in London. Originally designed to support parents working non-traditional hours, the nursery caters to children aged 1 to 5 years, guiding them through their vital pre-school development.

As an independent, non-profit charitable organisation, it operates under the guidance of a voluntary management committee that includes representatives from St. George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The nursery is committed to providing a nurturing and stimulating environment, ensuring children are safe and content while their parents pursue their careers with peace of mind.

Regular inspections by Ofsted ensure adherence to high standards, and potential families are encouraged to visit the nursery after submitting an application.

Inclusion & environment

How they support every child

SEND provision

Staff work well with external agencies to support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities. Children are supported well as they move through different parts of the day and actively take part in activities, such as singing.

Outdoor space

The large and well-equipped outdoor learning spaces have been well designed to ensure that children of all ages can test out their growing physical development skills. Equal access to the outdoors in both small free-flow areas and in the main garden ensures that there are always opportunities to learn outside.

EAL / language support

Children, including those who speak English as an additional language, make good progress with their language development.
