Bolton Nursery, located in Appleby, Cumbria, received a 'Good' rating in its latest Ofsted inspection on 7 December 2022. Children from birth to five years old are welcomed into a friendly and nurturing environment where they quickly feel safe and happy.
The nursery prides itself on the caring relationships staff build with the children, ensuring individual needs are met and supporting children to engage in their favourite activities. The curriculum is designed around children's interests, fostering creativity and a positive attitude towards learning.
Staff enthusiastically engage with children in imaginative play, and there is a strong focus on developing physical skills both indoors and outdoors, with opportunities for large muscle movements and fine motor development. Communication skills are promoted through conversations, singing, and stories, with support for children who speak English as an additional language.
Mathematical concepts are skillfully woven into everyday play, building children's problem-solving abilities. Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) receive good care and support, working collaboratively with external professionals to ensure their progress.
The nursery also emphasises healthy living, teaching good hygiene routines and promoting awareness of physical health.

Inclusion & environment

Children have ample opportunities to be physical. Outdoors, children build coordination, walk with stilts and ride on scooters. The inspector observed the quality of education being provided, both indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact that this was having on children's learning.
