Bracken Place Day Nursery & Preschool, established in 2000, offers childcare for children aged 0-5 years within a sprawling two-acre setting of lawns and gardens in Chilworth, Southampton. Inclusion & environment
Staff have a robust understanding of the unique needs of each child. There is a particular emphasis on ensuring that children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) have their needs met well. Leaders and staff work collaboratively with parents and a wide range of external professionals to implement effective strategies to support individual children, including those with SEND, to make the progress they are capable of.
Overall, staff plan and provide a variety of purposeful outdoor play opportunities. Staff ensure that children have daily access to the outside provision.
The September 24 Offsted report and reviews by former staff members on 'glass ceiling' and 'indeed- should tell you everything you need to know about this nursery.https://uk.indeed.com/cmp/Bracken-Place-Day-Nursery-Limited/reviews In my opinion, it is merely a commerical operation, which does not prioritise the children. A handful of instances that give a flavour of the way it is run include: 1. After my child changed nursery, they agreed to return the disbility funding that they had received for him and not yet spent, so that his new nursery could put things in place for him to help with his disability. They confirmed that they had done this. However, it turned out they did not return the money, and refused to do so, on the basis that there is nothing in the rules which forces them to do so. 2. They took disability funding money for my child, and then shortly afterwards decided that they couldn't handle his disability and excluded him from the nursery. 3. They held back food from him as punishmen when they considered him to have been naughty. 4. They allowed him to be bullied by an older bunch of kids because they had put him in the next class up due to their workforce constraints. When he defended himself (bearing in mind this is a just turned 3 year old againsnt 4.5 year olds), they decided to exclude him because one of the bigger kids mother, was a staff member, and refused to come to work if they didn't get rid of him. This also conveniently for them, coincided with us having given them a couple of months notice to move him to a better nursery. Their story then changed, saying that they could take him on Mondays and Fridays, i.e the less desirable days to sell. 6. The place was in a poor state of repair the last time i was there. 7. Having moved him to a council nursery up the road, we have since had no issues and he is thriving. 8. The management are very abrasive to deal with, especially in the face of criticism or when voicing concerns. I fully expect a spiteful or entirely made up reply to this review.
Read on GoogleMy son attended the nursery / toddlers section and under their care transformed into a confident young boy. They have large grounds around the building and encourage lots of outdoor and indoor activities. My son learnt immensely while having a great deal of fun. They are also very flexible and accommodating especially during the covid pandemic. We are sad to leave the nursery as moving elsewhere.
