Bright Horizons Bishop's Stortford Day Nursery and Preschool provides a welcoming and inclusive environment for children aged 0-4 years, registered with Ofsted in 2024. The nursery focuses on preparing children for the next stage of learning, including school, with all children achieving well from their starting points.
Staff have high expectations and consistently support positive behaviour, helping children develop friendships and manage their emotions. The curriculum is designed to build on prior knowledge, with a particular emphasis on physical development.
Children are encouraged to be independent from a young age, making choices about where they play and developing physical skills to move safely in both indoor and outdoor spaces. The nursery also places a strong emphasis on supporting children with English as an additional language, using visual aids and promoting home language understanding.
Leaders and staff work closely with parents, forming a 'nursery family' where open discussions and timely support are provided for any barriers to learning. The setting ensures a fully inclusive environment, identifying and swiftly addressing any needs, and effectively uses additional funding to support children's progress.
Our ethos
Bright Horizons utilises a holistic and nurturing approach, centred on their "Nurture Approach" philosophy and "Bright Beginnings Curriculum," which integrates five key learning areas and practical life skills. They also emphasise outdoor learning, sustainability, and the importance of secure attachments through their "Key Person" role and settling-in programme.

Inclusion & environment
Leaders and staff work closely with parents, enabling prompt discussion and early identification of any barriers to children's learning. They have thorough oversight and knowledge of child development, accurately identifying age- and stage-appropriate behaviour and using additional funding effectively to support children's progress. Local partnerships with other professionals ensure timely support for children if required.
Children are fully engaged in the range of opportunities on offer indoors and outdoors. They make choices about where they play and develop the physical skills they need to move safely around the spaces they use.
Children who speak English as an additional language feel valued and included. Staff use books and speaking devices to promote children's understanding of their home language, and the vocabulary available becomes broader as children get older, helping them to communicate effectively and develop their understanding of English.
Brodie started at Bright Horizons Bishop’s Stortford just after turning one, and we’ve had a really positive experience. The staff are kind, attentive, and clearly care about the children. Brodie settled in quickly and has grown so much in confidence and development since starting. Communication is great, and the nursery feels welcoming and well run. Couldn’t recommend Bright Horizons Bishop’s Stortford enough. The app is great with updates throughout the day and look forward to seeing the photo of what Brodie’s been up to and weekly more depth updates of what his been doing.
Read on GoogleMy little girl has been at this nursery for almost a year, and we couldn’t be happier! After moving from another Bright Horizons, she settled in almost immediately, thanks to the incredibly caring and attentive staff. Every member of the team goes above and beyond to make children feel safe, happy, and supported. We absolutely love this nursery and would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for the very best care in the area!
