Brooklyn Preschool Playgroup, established in January 1987, offers a nurturing and stimulating environment where children can learn and develop through play. The preschool is dedicated to fostering confident, creative, and curious young minds.
Their curriculum is rooted in the Early Years Foundation Stage framework, tailored to individual interests, and incorporates elements of The Curiosity Approach to encourage exploration and wonder. The staff, all qualified to Level 3 in Early Years, Children's Care, Learning and Development, are deeply committed to continuous professional development, indicated by specialised in-house training in areas like Makaton, sensory processing, and schematic play.
The preschool prides itself on its strong key person system, ensuring each child forms a trusting bond with a practitioner who supports their unique development towards independence and confidence. Communication is enhanced through the use of Makaton and visual aids, which has positively impacted children's early speech and language.
Our ethos
We strive to provide children with a safe, exciting and nurturing environment where they can explore the awe and wonder of the world around them. Children learn to be curious and creative little thinkers using their Hands, Heart and Head (Characteristics of Effective Learning) through meaningful interactions and sustained shared thinking. We aim for children to reach high levels of engagement in their chosen activities and for practitioners to scaffold their learning with teachable moments and open ended questions. We have a strong key person system where each child has a warm and trusting relationship with a key person and practitioners endeavour to support each child to be unique, confident and independent individuals ready for the next stage in their learning. We use Makaton and visual aids to support communication and language skills which has had a positive impact on children’s early speech and language as fed back to us from our families. We have a fantastic team of dedicated practitioners who each bring their own unique flare and passion to the setting, working together to create a safe place where children can thrive and learn through play.

Inclusion & environment
Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities receive tailored and effective support. For example, staff use specific strategies, such as visual prompts and signing to support children.
When children wait to go on the swing outdoors, they patiently sit on a crate until the swing is free. Children develop good physical skills outdoors. For instance, children use large building bricks to build a brick house from the story of 'The Three Little Pigs'.
This school allows children to be children. Lots of space for kids to run around and plenty of messy play. Perfect place for a child to practice their social skills. Staff are all very friendly and very helpful.
