Be cautious—appearances can be deceiving. Although the nursery may look appealing from the outside, with its building and toys, our experience was deeply disappointing. A major concern was the constant staff turnover, which made it very difficult for children to build consistent, trusting relationships with the adults caring for them. We also found the setting inflexible and slow to support children’s independence. It took months of repeated requests just to have our child’s potty made available during the day. Despite being fully potty-trained at home, he was routinely put in nappies at nursery. On one occasion, a staff member even attempted to force him to use the toilet—completely disregarding his needs and preferences. More seriously, we experienced an incident that raised real concerns about hygiene and safety. Although the nursery uses an app to record care and toileting, only wees were logged for our child that day. Yet when we arrived to collect him, he had soil stains all over his body—strongly suggesting he had come into contact with faeces. Shockingly, the staff had not noticed, had no explanation, and we had to ask for wipes to clean him ourselves. This is not just a failure in communication—it is a serious health and safeguarding issue, and completely unacceptable in any childcare setting. While there had previously been some outstanding staff who truly cared for the children, the nursery was unable to retain them. We were incredibly relieved once we moved our child to a new setting, where he was fully respected, and allowed to thrive.

I am writing to express my concern regarding the issues we've encountered while trying to secure a place for our child at your nursery. Despite submitting our application twice, we have not received any clear response. On multiple occasions, we were assured that someone would get back to us—most recently after my husband called and was told we’d hear back by the end of the day. Unfortunately, no one contacted us, and repeated follow-ups have resulted in similar unfulfilled promises. This lack of communication and accountability has caused us significant frustration and disappointment. We value early childhood education and were hopeful that your nursery would be a supportive and reliable environment. However, the current experience raises serious concerns about the level of organisation and professionalism.

This nursery is amazing! I was so super scared/nervous to put my toddler into nursery as I had around 14 months off postpartum with her so to leave her in the care of someone she doesn’t know and unfamiliar surroundings was just a bit overwhelming. We looked around 6/7 nurseries and this was the last one we went to look at. As soon as I walked in I knew this was the right one! She has been going now for three months and she is so so happy. The staff there are AMAZING! We are always updated with what’s she’s doing in the day, they contact you if they have any issues and are always there for support if needed. My little one now runs into nursery smiling and I now don’t worry when I’m at work because I know she is being cared for by such amazing staff. I would definitely recommend.

My son went to Busy Bees Selly Oak, he loved it there! After he was settled it was easy to drop off and picking him up, he was eager to go which was a sign that he was happy there. They have an app that updates when he gets his nappy changed, what he eats and pictures of his activities. The staff are friendly and helpful, we can tell that they are passionate about kids (especially Jahed! My son’s favorite person there). I can see the positive developments after my son was there. Truly an extension of home.
