Charters Ancaster Nursery and Forest School, located in Bexhill, offers a nurturing and stimulating environment for children aged 6 months to 5 years. The nursery focuses on a 'Hygge' approach, inspired by the Danish concept of embracing simple joys and creating a cosy, secure atmosphere where children feel safe, happy, and supported to reach their full potential.
This philosophy is championed by Nursery Manager Susannah Crump, who has a long-standing connection with the nursery. A key highlight is the extensive Forest School programme, led by a dedicated Forest School Leader.
This allows children to engage with nature and explore the outdoors in all weather conditions within the nursery's woodlands and gardens. The nursery has received a Woodland Trust Gold Award, reflecting its commitment to outdoor education.
Recent developments include enhancements to the Forest School area and the adoption of the Hygge approach throughout the nursery. The nursery has been praised by Ofsted for its highly skilled staff and exceptional care, ensuring children thrive.

Inspector highlights
Inclusion & environment
Funding is used extremely well to support every child's learning needs. Additional staff are always available for children who may need extra help with their learning. Staff worked closely with parents and a speech and language therapist to support children in developing their communication skills after lockdown.
Staff meticulously plan all activities, including those which take place outside. Children learn the importance of managing risks and using tools safely in the woodland area, and confidently make decisions when climbing trees. The extensive outside areas are used particularly well to enrich children's learning.
I cannot even begin to explain how incredible this nursery is. Charters Ancaster is ofsted outstanding and there are no other words to describe the level of care and love the staff provide for my child.. absolutely outstanding. Charters keep up to date and continuous updates on my child whilst he is at nursery, I can see everything that he has eaten and slept and more in almost real time, they never forget, this is so valuable to be able to check in on our babies during busy working parents days. The handovers at the end of the day are never rushed, they always spend time making sure we know all the important parts of our child’s days giving attention to just the one parent at a time, and the handovers are so personal, we never get ‘he had a good day’ with no context. It is the highlight of my day, picking up my child and hearing all the things that he personally has been up to. On top of all of this they share such wonderful observations that clearly evidence how well they know my child and how much they invest in their wellbeing and development. Since my child started at 9 months old, Charters have supported me and celebrated all of his achievements and milestones. He has flourished in so many ways since being in the care of the wonderful, well trained, experienced and dedicated staff. My child is a September born, so sometimes this can be upsetting as it means another year before school however I couldn’t be happier that my child will be able to spend an extra year in the place where I know that he is happy and thriving. Finding a nursery that you trust as a first time mummy is daunting and scary and not an easy thing, but I feel so lucky that we have done. Charters Ancaster is nothing short of outstanding.
Read on GoogleSuch a wonderful Nursery. Ive had three children that have been lucky enough to attend snd I could not praise Charters Ancaster highly enough. Each member of staff go above and beyond to make your children feel safe and loved. The activities they do daily are always so impressive and must take a lot of effort. They always keep you updated with your child's daily routine and take the time to document and send us regular photographs. I couldn't praise this Nursery highly enough 😊
Read on GoogleMy son started here when he was 1 & went all the way through the classes. I cannot fault the excellent care given & the loving family feel to the nursery. They gave special care to attend to his allergy needs, catering for his complex allergies & adapting the main recipes so that he never felt left out. The Forest school is beautiful & each & every member of staff genuinely cares for each & every child that comes through their doors. I’m looking forward to my baby starting soon! ♥️
