About this day nursery

Cheeky Monkeys Day Nursery, established in 2000 by Jo Southerton, offers outstanding childcare for children from six weeks to five years old. Jo, with an NNEB qualification from 1986 and a Masters Degree, founded the nursery with the vision of creating a positive impact on young children's lives.

The nursery has consistently achieved "Outstanding" ratings in its last three Ofsted inspections, receiving praise for its curriculum, inclusivity, safeguarding, and approach to special educational needs. The mission of Cheeky Monkeys is to provide a safe and enriching learning environment that caters to each child's individual needs, fostering confidence and encouraging autonomy.

The nursery promotes independence, curiosity, and self-identity, allowing every child to develop uniquely with a strong sense of self. They are proud of their multicultural environment, celebrating diverse cultures and religions through various activities, from crepe-making sessions to Chinese New Year workshops and Eid parties.

The nursery also emphasises a healthy lifestyle, participating in the NHS-approved Startwell programme and offering free fruit, vitamins, and teeth cleaning advice. The dedicated staff, with qualifications ranging up to MA in early years, are committed to providing engaging and fun learning experiences.

How they support every child

SEND provision

Managers and staff have high expectations for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). The provision for children with SEND is well supported by the passionate special educational needs coordinator (SENCo), who works in partnership with parents, staff, and external professionals, with adequate training and support provided to staff to effectively support children with SEND to meet their targets.

Outdoor space

Children are encouraged to discuss the importance of staying active to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Children benefit from accessing a range of planned activities and adult interactions, such as counting the steps outside.
