Chesterwell Day Nursery, established in 2023 in Colchester, provides outstanding childcare for children aged 0-4 years. Operating Monday to Friday from 7 AM to 6 PM, the nursery ensures a consistent "all year" provision.
The setting is deeply committed to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, which is evident in its well-sequenced and purposefully implemented learning experiences. Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities thrive, making significant progress through tailored educational programmes, including targeted speech and language sessions.
Staff expertly support children with English as an additional language, using visual prompts and native language words, leading to rapid communication skill development. The nursery prioritises both personal and emotional development, creating a warm, calm environment where even babies build secure relationships, and older children develop complex mathematical vocabulary.
Outdoor learning is a significant feature, with engaging obstacle courses that enhance gross motor skills, balance, and coordination, all while knowledgeable staff teach personal safety. Inclusion & environment
Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities make significant progress from their individual starting points, demonstrating enthusiasm and a strong willingness to engage in a wide range of learning experiences. Leaders and staff ensure that children with special educational needs and/or disabilities are included and benefit from meaningful teaching and interactions. They benefit from tailored educational programmes, including targeted speech and language sessions that focus on children's attention, listening and vocabulary, as highlighted on their detailed intervention plans.
In the garden, children are encouraged to explore a wide selection of purposeful obstacle courses and games to strengthen their gross motor skills, balance and coordination. As children operate the apparatus, knowledgeable staff guide and support them to develop a clear understanding of personal safety, such as avoiding potential hazards.
Staff consistently support children who speak English as an additional language to engage in discussions and conversations while using visual prompts and words from their native language. As a result, children rapidly develop the communication skills needed to thrive across all areas of learning.
Eliana has thrived at Seymour House. Despite being a smaller child, she has had a completely positive and supportive experience, free from any bullying. The support from her key workers and assistants has been exceptional, and she is now eagerly anticipating moving up to the nursery. Her experience is particularly notable as she was a pioneer student, part of the very first cohort when Seymour Colchester opened.
Read on GoogleThis nursery is outstanding, worth every single penny. I am a huge worrier but I can say without a doubt that when I drop my daughter off in the mornings, I leave knowing she is in safe hands. Their education and the thought that goes behind it is incredible, they recognised where my daughter needed some extra help, they have done this and she has come on leaps and bounds. Recently they have given us huge support in her toilet training. All the staff are extremely friendly and welcoming, showing genuine care for my child and all the children. I think it says it all when on days off my daughter asks to go nursery and when she does go, she runs in. I can’t thank them for everything they have done in helping shape my daughter into who she is today and I will be extremely sad to say goodbye to this nursery when she heads off to primary school this year. I wish they did a primary school Seymour House or that we could take all the staff with us. So if you are choosing a nursery, you will not regret it!
Read on GoogleWhat an amazing Nursery and a wonderful team. My Daughter loves it here is happy to go in and comes home happy and have seen a huge change with her development. From the moment my daughter started me have had regular updates and any issues, questions or concerns are dealt with promptly and professionally. Can’t thank the team enough for everything they do and feeling that my daughter is in very safe hands. :)
Read on GoogleThis nursery is beyond exceptional. I am a mum of two and can promise you I am VERY picky with who looks after our children (10 months & 2 & 1/2 years). My eldest has attended Chesterwell nursery for over a year and we are BLOWN AWAY. Everything I’ve heard from parents with children at other nurseries is absolutely nowhere near the level of care, detail and attention that Chesterwell nursery pays to the children in its care. From an exceptional management team, incredible skilled and loving staff to out of this world home made food (made by their sister company) this nursery takes it to the next level and they are worth every single penny and then some. Both of our daughters have gone since babies and will grow up there until it’s time they leave to start school (which will be a very sad day since I genuinely don’t think anywhere compares to how good they are). Contact them and ask for a tour or chat because you’ll never bother looking elsewhere. Chesterwell day nursery is the best of the best and exceeds our very very high expectations.
