About this day nursery

Clive Vale Nursery School in Hastings, established in 2020, offers childcare for children aged 0-4 years. The nursery operates Monday to Friday, from 8am to 6pm, all year round, closing only for two weeks during Christmas.

While the latest Ofsted rating is 'Inadequate', the setting has taken steps to address areas for improvement since their last inspection. Leaders and staff have worked to create an environment where children feel safe and secure, with a strong focus on maintaining children's safety, particularly during mealtimes.

The nursery aims to support all children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), with staff using visual aids and targeted support in collaboration with other professionals. The curriculum supports all areas of learning, with a particular focus on mathematics, and opportunities for outdoor play are provided in the garden, though some aspects of outdoor supervision and engagement are noted as areas for development.

Parents consistently speak positively about the staff and the key-person system, which helps children settle and build warm relationships.

What it's like

Children are very happy and settled, and they make good relationships with the other children and the staff. They play cooperatively as they explore a large range of well-planned activities and demonstrate a high level of engagement in their learning. All children, including those who face barriers to their learning, settle quickly. Staff plan activities well, taking into account the age and stage of development of each child so that children make progress in their learning and are successfully prepared for the next stage in their learning, such as going to school.

The grounds are lovely however I would consider a different nursery if your child has additional needs. I asked for my son to be refered to isend before he was 3 years old, they said they were unable to as he had met the three outcomes they had set him. I had to refer my son through my health visitor and he has finally been diagnosed with autism at the age of 6. The hand over was often ‘He’s had a good day,he’s played in the big garden’ however one of the days he was meant to have a good day he came home in an awful mood, when I went to bath him when we got home he had a bite mark on his shoulder.. my son was unable to tell me this at the time due to being behind with his speech and the nursery had not informed me that this happened I was told he had a good day. Fraser came home really hungry one day in which all of his lunch was still in his bag. There needs to be more understanding and training for autistic children, I have informed the nursery about this as a learning out come and have received no response.
