Collingham and District Pre-School, located in Newark, NG23 7NG, provides sessional care for children from two years of age up to statutory school age. The preschool operates throughout Nottinghamshire County Council term times, offering a structured learning environment focused on preparing children emotionally for their transition to primary school.
Sessions are available Monday to Friday, with core hours from 8:50 am to 3:30 pm. For extended care, a breakfast club is available from 8:00 am, and an after-school club runs until 6:00 pm.
The preschool emphasises healthy eating, with children bringing packed lunches if attending a full day. Prospective parents can express interest in a place at any time, even from when their child is just a few months old, by completing an application form.
Children are admitted once they reach two years of age, with session allocation dependent on availability. The dedicated staff, under the guidance of the manager, strive to create a supportive and engaging atmosphere for all children.
What it's like
When children first start attending, they are invited to taster sessions to help them become familiar with staff and the environment. Staff use strategies to promote children's emotional well-being, such as helping children to understand what is happening now and what will happen next. This helps children become familiar with the routine and settle well.

Inclusion & environment
The manager and staff help children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) to visit the school regularly. Children with SEND are supported well, with staff receiving specific training from other professionals. Children have individual targets in place, and the manager uses additional funding to provide one-to-one support.
Children are physically active in the garden, copying staff as they show them how to move across obstacle courses. They develop their balance and coordination and have opportunities for exercise outdoors after lunchtime so they are not sitting for long periods.
