Opening hours
8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday
Early Start Shrewsbury Road, located in Forest Gate, London, was registered in 2017 and operates all year round from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. The setting cares for children aged 0-4 years, providing government-funded places.
" The nursery has a capacity for 63 children and employs 15 childcare staff, 13 of whom hold relevant qualifications. While leaders are working to improve outcomes, inconsistencies in support for staff have led to low morale and an uneven quality of care and education.
However, children are happy and secure, engaging in both indoor and outdoor play, expressing their thoughts, and building strong friendships. The provision for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) is secure, with staff effectively using additional funding and collaborating with external professionals to provide necessary support.
Parents speak highly of the staff and the positive impact on their children's self-esteem and confidence.
What it's like
Leaders are motivated and have a clear plan for the development of staff's practice, but other duties hinder their ability to consistently support the staff team, leading to low staff morale and inconsistencies in the quality of care and education. Partnerships with parents are not strong, and although staff are offered supervision, it's not fully embedded, causing slow overall improvement. Despite this, children are happy, secure, and well-behaved, enjoying indoor and outdoor play, expressing their thoughts, and building friendships.

Inclusion & environment
The support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) is secure. Staff use additional funding well, such as to provide individual care and purchase new resources for all children. Staff work with outside professionals to ensure that children receive the support that they need.
Children enjoy indoor and outdoor play. They explore their environment and extend their physical skills. The inspector observed the quality of education being provided, indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact on the children's learning.
Shrewsbury Nursery has been absolutely amazing, and I would highly recommend it to any parent. They’ve had such a positive impact on our son, who had been with me 24/7 before starting there. The staff helped him transition from being completely dependent on me to confidently socialising with both adults and other children — something I didn’t think would happen so quickly. His separation anxiety has completely vanished thanks to their care and support. The entire team is truly lovely — caring, kind, and genuinely invested in helping children grow the right way. One of the nursery’s greatest strengths is the wide variety of activities they offer. Each visit feels like a new adventure for our son. The environment is always spotless, safe, and thoughtfully designed to support development. Even though he only attended two days a week, he would come home having learned something new every single time — it was truly impressive to see how much he was growing. Thank you, Shrewsbury Nursery, for being such a wonderful part of our son’s early journey. We’re so grateful! Lysabelle
Read on GoogleBoth my daughters attend(ed) nursery here (5 &2). Staff are excellent with children of all ages, from assisting with potty training, to support with education & development and with food and general knowledge and experience. Meals are varied and my girls love the chicken and rice! The team are great with providing feedback and updates on the progression of the children and really promote collaborative learning. It’s a lovely environment with great indoor and outdoor space, and I recommend it to all parents.
Read on GoogleWe've found the nursery to be outstanding in caring for our son. He gets a key worker who builds up a relationship with him. He eats better than I do with an amazing menu each day. The staff are so incredibly friendly and management have been very accommodating to additional days. It is definitely more than just childcare, and we can see our son's education has taken a head start. Very highly recommended. We intend on keeping our son here for as long as we can.
Read on GoogleShrewsbury Road nursery has been a big part of our lives for the last 6 years now, with us sending both of our boys from around one year old. The boys have always been so happy there, and that's down to the fab team and the range of activities they facilitate, that in turn have helpeld the boys grow, develop and learn healthy social dynamics. Shout out in particular to our boys' favourites Stacey, Diane and Serish. We'll really miss the place and all of the team though, with the management and leadership team also supportive and helpful with great communication throughout their time. Would, and have done several times already, not hesitate to recommend.
Read on GoogleI love this nursery and since my daughter started at 3 years old I was nervous as she had been with a childminder beforehand. My worries were soon cleared up, as on my daughters' first day she came home happy. Her speech is amazing and this is also due to the nursery. She looks forward to going to nursery. All the activities she does are well planned to help with development. Her confidence has increased with adults and other children and she has made friends and is always talking about nursery, it's also lovely to get details of what my daughter has done that day and she hates leaving and when she sees nursery gets so excited, you can also tell child safety is important and makes you feel safe knowing your child is in safe hands and everyone is so welcoming I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS NURSERY TO ANY PARENT OR CARER.
